    Hello friends,

I planning to launch a website for publishing exam results...

But the data is 600000+ .. During the result publishing date , the traffic hit will be very very high.

Also the database is in .dbf format , an i need to import it into mysql or ms sql... The data is 600000+ , , ///.. (hard to import)

    Can anyone suggest me ,

    1 ) Platform to choose
2 ) Webhost (shared or dedicated)
3 ) The service provider for hosting
4 ) How to import this huge database

You need to get a dedicated by the sounds of it.

    I would checkout either sharkyhosting.co.uk or EUKHOST.com

As for the database split them up into separate parts for upload. I am sure if you can't do that a trusted member on DP will do it for you for a small fee.

    it will be along process///

i won't have time for splitting the database and uploading because.. soon after i receive the database from the university or institutions , the website should be alive within the next 2 or 3hours

You will need to export it to a file as the first step.
If you need to make this into a SQL file so as to import to MYSql
You will need a tool to do it.

This is not easy for someone who is not a programmer.

As for what type of hosting - you can go with a shared account.
But you will need to use a good host for this.
    Dedicated is expensive.
VPS will not be a good solution for high traffic.

Start with shared web hosting account and then you will be able to upgrade, unless you are paying for the whole year in advance.
    Good luck

What I understand is that you are in need of the web hosting solution with database to store your data there. If so you need to specify with any web host about database size you will get with them
    Good luck
