A: Article directories are not something you can spam into. Whether or not you can get approved, it's up to the directory owners. All I can say is on average, each sets of submissions will generate hundreds of backlinks. I will try to submit to more than 300+ if there are enough sites available. Some people offer submissions to their own directories, those are usually worthless page rank 0 link spam sites. And google will punish you for having a link there. The harder is it to get into a directory, the more link value it usually has.

But I believe my article submission works, at least it works pretty well for my new site, which wasn't even indexed in search engines back in December 1st, 2008 when it was opened to the public. What I did was stagger the submissions, targeting multiple keywords "free classifieds", "free advertising", "free classified ads", "employment classifieds", to avoid the Google penality of SEOing the same keywords too much. I don't target long tail keywords that nobody searches for, Most of those have over thousands of monthly searches. I am happy to say that I am outranking Craigslist for my keyword "Free Classified Ads", but that is because Craigslist doesn't do much SEO. So it's more of an ego thing for me to say I outrank Craigslist in SERP. So there is an adverse impact, if you do too many submissions at once that makes it look unnatural to Google.
