I have calculated the latest Directory PageRank Stastistics. The stats were compiled from the database of our list of 11,000 web directories. It looks as if directory PageRank is still holding its own, although there are some interesting numbers. Overall, the PR numbers are up although the PR0 and NA directories have also increased. You can see complete details in our Directory PageRank blog posting. If you have any comments or can explain any of the numbers please post them or send them to me. Thanks.
Thank you for the kind comments. It will help motivate me to keep up the ongoing task of updating the information on the site.
For sure, PageRank is updated whenever we notice a major Google update. I also run an update when I notice Google has manually updated some individual sites.
Good for you Canadian, keep up the good work. I certainly see your list as one of the few established and regularly updated resources.
Some quick math using a spreadsheet shows that the average weighted average of PR has actually decreased the past year from 2.16 to 1.85 now. Directories under PR3 show a dramatic rise as a percentage of the total. I'll put up the Google Doc spreadsheet if CanadianEh is okay with it. Thanks for creating this CanadianEh - very interesting!
An interesting observation. The only problem that I can see by looking at the raw number is that there is a relatively small number of quality long-term directories while there are thousands of directories with questionable quality. These come and go quite fast and many are managed as networks of 20-100 directories, sometimes identical and stored on the same IP. Other possible factors affecting PR could be that directories are promoted much less now than they were 1 year and 2 years ago. Either way, the numbers are useful for discussion.
As they say around Boston "I think you're making my point". The raw numbers indicate what I think most would observe and what you stated. A rush of low quality directories, dropped domains, redirected domains, etc. So I would say that on average directories as not really holding their PR actually - only the quality ones are. The Rich are getting Richer in this case. As quality is harder to achieve and Google can be quick to punish low quality directories. Thanks again CanadianEh! I'll put up the spreadsheet in a bit.
Could you give us pr statistics about niche & general web directory statistics? And if it is possible Could you give us pr statistics about brand of web directory ? Thanks
Those stats are very interesting. There seems to be stagnation around PR3 and 4, but if a directory can break out of that, it's golden. Interesting....
I should be able to do it. Just want to make sure I have it straight before doing the searches. You would like PR statistics for niche directories and PR statistics for general directories What do you mean by brand of directory?
