Even after filing a report with the Better Business Bureau, Kontera is still refusing to pay my account balance. I honored the contract, as set forth in their terms of service, and gave 30 days notice before removing the tags from the website. Yet, they are claiming that I breached the contract because the impression levels dropped. I had to move the Kontera tags out of the free website templates section on Themebot because the JavaScript tags were conflicting with either the AJAX scripting used in that section, or the caching mechanism, or a combination of all three. When a visitor would land on any page in the free website templates section while the Kontera tags were active, the first page load would be completely blank, there wasn't even anything in the source code. If I reloaded the page, then it would open correctly. I didn't even know that the Kontera script was causing a problem for some time (normally I am logged into the site, so I didn't see the effects of the caching with Kontera). I knew something was wrong because I saw my bounce rate spike during the period of time that the error started cropping up. It took a lot of time trouble-shooting this before I figured out that the Kontera script was causing the problem. There is nothing in the Kontera terms of service that says anything about having to maintain a certain level of page impressions, and there is also nothing about having to place the tags on every single page. Furthermore, it is ridiculous to demand that a publisher keep the tags active in a certain section of a website if it is causing breakage. Totally irritating! I'm going to have to take them to small claims court and hopefully justice will be served. Here is a link to the full article, which has a review of the Kontera ContentLink service and why not to use Kontera if you are trying to make money online. The article also explains why it is a good idea to avoid in-text advertising altogether. Kontera - how to not make money online.
Wow thanks for the heads up, and sorry for your loss. I was just about to get ready to use them on my sites.
This does not seem like a smart business move on their part, now they have a complaint against them with the BBB.
Thanks for info .. all publishers should be aware of kontera. kontera now is a very big problem, they are losing money and publishers and most of all their reputation, all publisher leaving them and trying better and different networks (infolinks, adbrite, vibrant media, etc.). and simply when publishers join these networks they see the big change in earning and how kontera ripping them off with very low earning. thanks for the article, and for your important points about kontera: 1- Kontera ContentLink Ads are not Relevant 2- Kontera ContentLink Ads will Slow Down Your Website 3- Kontera has Terrible Accounting Tools 4- You Won't Make Money Online with Kontera 5- If You Do Earn a Few Bucks with Kontera, Don't Expect to be Paid
Yeah, it seems like a lot of bloggers and webmasters are down on Kontera. The company is probably going under and hopefully nobody else signs up with them to later find out they are not getting paid. I wish I had known what a pain in the arse it was going to be and how lousy the earnings are with Kontera before I ever wasted time with them.
Thats what happens with somany adnetwork, when they get too popular, they don't keep up with support and good service or don't pay on time
In the reports the day after I pulled my Kontera tag, my CPM went up from 0.30 to 0.90 with the same impressions...........mysteriously. But i'm never going back to them. They have $200 bucks in my account ...they can keep it. They'll need it with all these publishers leaving them and giving them bad rep. Use Kontera if you want give away your money and advertising online.
I am looking to remove kontera from my sites soon too, the $ from Kontera is just too pathetic. Over 2k impressions, hundereds of clicks, paying a total of less than $2!
omg Kontera really is going nowhere. i got a very similar situation here --> http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1195561 don't really know what's up with these "threats" of not giving us payment if you remove their codes without notice bla bla bla. this seriously hurt their rep to all publishers.
