Should I get a chainsaw?

I’ve got some pretty big branches to cut up in the back garden, but I’m not sure as to whether buying a chainsaw is too dangerous for me.

Has anyone had any experience? Are they hard to use?

Get one... the nice thing about a chainsaw is you can also use it for self protection against a bad guy breaking into your house or something. Just keep it by your bed.

chainsaws are easy to use. I figured it out and I am not a DIY guy by any stretch of the imagination. Pretty easy to control too, actually. My problem comes when the chain comes off (which it will). Its hard to get back on. Other than that, I love it. Takes 10 seconds to do a job that would take hours with a normal saw.

When every tree in the yard starts to look like potential victims, though, its time to put it down :p You are having a little too much fun at that point.

Could you get electrical power to where you will be cutting? If you can and if the branches you will be cutting are less than 20" in diameter, I would suggest looking at a reciprocating saw (Sawzall). Much lighter, easier to handle, with lots of diferent blades available (no chain to sharpen).

That's why I had to get rid of my ax. My neighbors were starting to get pissed.

Whatever! If you don't have a fence, your trees are fair game- IMO.

don't forget about aliens attacking! or if your hand gets chopped off too, and then the zombies attack, just use a chainsaw in its place!

My girlfriend is skilled in the use of the chainsaw. (She volunteers to rehab trails during the summers...)
This is why I must be very, very careful...
