OK to use an info domain as main business domain?

Currently I have an info domain (my user name + info, I can't post live links yet).

What's your level of trust towards a website using an info domain? Are they too linked to spammy sites, or is it cool to use it?

Now, one might say "why not use a dot com name"...well, it is such a bitch to think up a new nick name and I have this domain lying around, so I am choosing the easier path :D

    Thanks for any replies!

Not only would it look unprofessional, but you would probably loose a bit of traffic because your potential customers would try .com, and not find your website. Eventually they may give up.

Finding a good .com is not that hard, just do another brainstorm :)

IMHO, there is really nothing wrong with a .INFO domain as your main page. Though if the .COM is not yours, you may wish to re-think things if that .com is a competitor. When people simply type in your name they generally get sent to the .COM, so that is certainly something to keep in mind.

That is not even an option. If you want to be taken seriously, you MUST use a .com. If the one you want isnt available, try variations like "...llc.com" or "...inc.com" if you are incorporated.

Do don't think that .info is a bad TLD, but I also know that .com is still the best.

I agree guys...I'm being lazy here. One point is there is no way in hell I'm going to brand this domain...you are only going to find it if I say look here...ninjawork.info

In a way, I enjoy it, since it is kind of like: "here's the info for ninja's work" :D

It may be difficult to come up with a new and good name for .com but it will be beneficial in the end. Plus, nowadays, what I have noticed is that, it's not easy to appear early in search results with a new .info domain. It should be a few years old before it gets a good ranking. But, it's just what I have noticed. Plus, for business, .com is the best!

I'd go for a .com or .net if I want to use it as my business domain. .info domains are cheap and can be easily bought and that is the reason many people will say that a domain with a .com is better as you've seen in above posts.

Seriously, guys. What are you thinking about? If you don't know what you're talking about, then don't bother.

.info is not okay to use as a business domain. Not at all. I would never do business with someone who didn't pay an extra $6 for a .com domain, or didn't have the energy to brainstorm a good businessname.

If you want costumers to trust you, go with .com. It's for commercial use, hence .com, unless you're unaware of this.

A business is a long-term investment! If you are in the get-rich-quick scheme, then go ahead. Go with the .info.

To the rest of you professionals, looking to do real business online: dot com!

Do you think YouTube.info would have been as successful as YouTube.com? Think again.

Looks like the couple here with a brain have been outnumbered by the walking-talking brainless noobs who don't know what they are even talking about. :D

Tell that to the successful Webmasters who do have very nice-looking sites.

Really? How is that possible when they click on an ad? Like, for example, this: "Click here right now to see how you can save 30% on your cellphone bills, and get cool free ringtones at the same time."

It is because very, very few do not know how to think outside the box, and many of them are just dumb, so the info extensions are not used that much. ... YET, anyway.

The engine computers do not give any less weight to the letters "INFO."

If you guys think that, you are dumber than I think you are.

Since there is not a thing wrong with INFO, I would never do business with a person who is that narrow-minded.

Besides, you are clicking on an ad, so you won't know that it is, UNTIL you are there. If you leave once you see those four little digets, even though it is a nice site, and it may have what you want, what does that say about you?

I would hold the Internet door open for you.

Yeah, I do. At that time it was pretty much of a unique and and great idea to post ones own videos. They also started out with advertising, and then word of mouth quickly took over.

Finally, for all you noobs who don't know what you are talking about:

    http://www.mydigitallife.info/

Over 250,000 go there each month.

This is, yet another example thread why I do not worry about the competition. :D

For you others who put forth the effort to at least use some of your active brain cells: If you want that particular cool domain (like when I wanted The List), but the com is taken, buy another extension.

It doesn't make a bit of difference.

What DOES make a difference is your advertising (business cards, the look of your site, your prices, and, how fast your site can download.

Hmm, I wonder which extension that is.

    Gee, I hope it's a dot com.

    *rolls eyes*
