Apache is using all my memory

Apache is using all my memory. I don't think its a DDOS cause i get 30ms ping to the server. Is their any fixes to this. Its a vps with 512mb ram

You need monitor your site through putty to see whats the problem is.
Since its a vp and you should have root access log in and restart apahce. If its not a line of poorly wrote code you may need to upgrade your memory

 

i restart it and then 30 seconds later it starts to use all the memory.

 

well than you have a problem with your script or you are getting to much traffic for that amount of memory

 

All of a sudden it started to happen.

 

What type of website(s) are you running from this specific VPS?

512mb of RAM should be sufficient for most websites, but if your website(s) produce(s) a heavy load (ie; traffic / script is highly demanding), then you should upgrade your RAM specs.

You may want to revise the other specs of your VPS too, it doesn't have to be down to the amount of RAM... (although it is more than likely)

My BW went up from 26.7gb to 30.65gb from the last 8 hours.

 

For a forum, you only need minimum specs... (unless it's on the same kinda level as DP, anyways )

Is it possible that you're being bombarded by any unwanted traffic?

 

I had same problem for begining of this new year and it was a DDoS attack to my server by some of the members / non-members of the forum and I had to swith from GoDaddy which was not allow me to work on their panel with Apache stopped.

I had a server load of 890 for some time for it to be got a case of DDoS and Max Apache process running.

 

maybe someone is DDoSing the server. How do I check the apache logs so I can find the ip and ban them.

 

To be entirely honest with you, I dont recall ever accessing apache logs... So just have a hunt around in your control panel etc for an Apache Access Log...

There you should find the information you need to determine the problem, IF it is down to high access demands..

 

Here are the steps to it.
Stop Apache
Clear apache logs or backup them
Now start apache
The moment you see the site down in some minutes stop apache.
Now take the logs
You would see lots of things out there and you need to see if there is something suspicious.

You should have full root access to every bit of information you need about your server.... =/ ?

i would suggest getting a managed server then gatatube. Let people that have experience in this field to help track down your issue
