I am new to the world of link development & SEO. I have a website, whose PR is 0 and my goal is to reach PR4. I have few questions. 1) Most of Social bookmarking websites(e.g Digg, Reddit, Yahoo Buzz etc) have good PR. However, the inner page in particular has very less or 0 PR. So in such case, links from those websites. 2) My goal is to get PR4. How long can I achieve it i.e. how many links would I need & how many quality links. 3) If I have around 1000 backlinks from social media websites & also if all of those pages are newly created which implies that those pages have no PR. Will those backlinks have an affect on PR of my site ? 4) How good are forum signatures in improving ? How good are blogs comment in improving PR ? 5) What are good techniques for creating backlinks. That I know are: - Blog Commenting - Forum Commenting - Directories - Social Media What else, that I am not missing ? Thanks for your time, everyone.
Social Media are a good and cheap way to increase your PR. Try to be reasonable and avoid spamming digg or whatever social media site. Blog commenting is similar to spam sometimes and i would avoid that. Forum posting with signature in related forum worth also.
Article submission is one of the other popular ones you forgot. Writing good articles that get republished across the net always helps. Check out this section of the forum for people who've asked the same thing in the past. There's hundreds of ways to increase your PR, almost all of which are in this section of DP somewhere.
it's worth remembering that a 'PR 0' isn't actually zero, it'll be something like 'PR 0.00000000012000101'. So it is of value, actually. Unless a site is actually banned, a link from it is valuable. The rest of your questions are unanswerable. For example, to go to PR4, how hard are you prepared to work? What's your budget? What field are you in? What Keywords are you targeting? What host are you using etc etc etc.

I want to do for this website: top 10 about everything Keywords are not specific. I have developed the solution in asp.net. So the solution is hosted on windows platform using godaddy hosting services. Although I am not sure, what is the role of hosting for Page rank.

1. the bookmarking websites will give you somewhat quality link though. 2. the more you work the more you get results. to achieve there is no exact figure that you can get into the PR4 but the fact is that you need ver ygood quality links for that. 3. forums posting and bloging will surely help you getting quality back links. Dont avoid them........... 4. other tech to build links are press release, commenting,.............
#1 That is not a question, but your statement is correct. #2 I could achive that within the next update, but it is gonna be tough (if not impossible) for you if your link building is based on social bookmarking and (link/article) directories. Many noobs on this forum would say it is a great way to build links, but the truth is that it is a waste of time... #3 They will have an affect on your ranking if the pages are indexed. Keep in mind that we are talking about a relative and a current PageRank. Stuff noobs often forget (or don't understand). #4 A site is a site. The amount of PageRank juice you will get from a link equals ingoing links / outgoing links (of course not the number, but the strength)... #5 Commenting can have a huger effect (if you do it right - not the random DP member style). Forum Commenting, Directories and Social Media is just a waste of time. What else, that I am not missing ? Real link building. Stop wasting your time getting tips from noobs on this forum.
I took me around 3 months of link building and i managed to get a PR of 2. I then changed my homepage from /index.html to /index.php. I set up the 301 redirect in my htaccess file and followed the advice. But now, when i log into google webmaster tools, all of my inbound links to the homepage are gone! Anyone had any experience of this and can share any insight?
U have to get links from high PR, and have at least 100 pages, with good linking within your website, write good press releases

Forum signatures and Social bookmarking are the two methods that work best for me. You also need patience cause google is one fickle bitch. I have seen sites that were page rank 2 go to page rank 0 despite adding back links and pages that I have done nothing too go to page rank 2. Me personally I have stopped trying to worry about page rank and just tried to monetize my sites. High Page rank is important I guess if you want to sell links. Anyway just my two cents....
