Wow, I just found out that Circuit City was going belly up in the US! Most stores will remain open for 2 months here from what I understand.

They will keep their stores in Canada though which is good.

I know I used to use them for just about everything electronical so I have know idea where I will go now. In my neck of the woods here in Ohio, they were the only decent electronic stores around lol.

I know some people claim their custoner support stinks, but I disagree ... not the CC we have here in my town.

What's everyone else think about it?

Best Buy did them in by putting stores near all of theirs and selling better electronics for less. Really has nothing to do with the economy.

It's not surprising at all... The USA's economy is horrible. I got 2 GB of RAM at Circuit City yesterday for $50 :)

I always liked Circuit City better than Best By, luckily I travel to Canada more than the US :)

Yeah I liked CC better than Best Buy as that's where I bought most of my PCs from.

Oh well maybe I can grab a good deal when I go in later this week.

Yeah, I certainly like CC better than BestBuy. At least when you bought something from CC it worked lol. Plus CC's customer service and support was far superior.

Sorry, but to say them going belly up has nothing to do with the economy is silly at best. People better start taking a look around because we are going to see many giants in the industry go belly up before it's all said and done. ;)

    That's simply ecpnomics lol.

    Lol and your point is?

Seems to me we're having a good discussion going as it is. :D

Btw, I'm not positive about this, but isn't posting your link from one of your threads here in this thread against the rules? Or am I mistaken?

Not here to ruffle any feathers just wanted the members to see the first thread and know my opinions and those that participated. Plus the rules said no duplicate threads.

As y'all can read I hate this fact for 2 reasons: 1) Less competition equals higher prices, and 2) I felt they could have done more to save the jobs if they would have had a different exit strategy. I don't know the whole circumstance behind the process, but I just thank the cosmos I did not purchase CC stock at those low prices. When they went into Chap. 11 I really thought they were going to pull it out, esp with the new CEO who is a specialist in rebuilding specialty stores.

What's worse is the new measure by state governments to include taxes on gadgets purchased over the net. I don't remember if CC charged me taxes when I purchased my laptop 2 years ago from them. Luckily I'm still covered by my extended warranty, and I'm getting a new one. :D

    Hey Stroh,

Thanks, I wasn't positive about so thanks! ;)

    Hey Cazgos,

No, you didn't step on anyone's toes that I no of ... seriously. ;)

Btw, this isn't a duplicate thread from looking at your subject line. Your's stated that Circuit City is dead, and mine asks if anyone is surorised to see CC go bankrupt in the US.

To me they are two distinctly different threads, so this doesn't break any rules of the forum.

What you say is probably partially true, but I also know someone high up in CC that told me they were in major debt for at least the last 2 years where they didn't think they could pull out of it even with a new managment change. I just haven't had the chance to talk with him in the last year because I moved.

I figured they had some chance because sales are hot this past year where I now live. I guess that's why it took me by surprise.

Lol I have no idea if they charged you tax, but I know they did me here in Ohio for a laptop I purchased about a year and a half ago or more. I'm pretty sure all the other electronic places have to charge consumers tax whether online or off.

yeah my mom was talking about that today. But who needs 5 places to go to to get electronics? We just need one good place with cheap prices

Circuit City is just one of the casualties of the current global economic turbulence and the nagging financial mess that ravaged the US economy. Too bad the company failed to hold on until the US economy rebounds.
