This is a stupid problem but it's driving me INSANE.

About 6 months ago, I downloaded one of those dumb windows tweaking programs. I changed a bunch of stuff in the settings. Since then, the history in my browser resets everytime I close down windows.

In other words, when windows boots up, I cant just go to the drop down box in my browser and select one of my frequented sites and go. I have to manually type it in.

The setting isnt one of the browser settings I dont think, I have looked and changed/reset all my settings there. I think it's a windows setting but I cant find it.

Does anyone have any clue how I can fix this? I will seriously send you $5 paypal if you can make this problem go away!

    Try this

    Go to Registry editor (Start>Run>regedit)
    Go to HKey_Current_User>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Intenet Settings>Cache>History

Check for CacheLimit key, the value of this key should 2000(hexadecimal) if it is not then set it to 2000(hexadecimal)
    and then check-
    HKey_Current_User>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Intenet Settings>URL history
check for the key DaysToKeep, set the value data to 14(Hexadecimal).

See if it solves your problem..
If not then please report back, We will try to find another solution.

PS: What application you have downloaded to tweak the windows??

Before you mess with the registry or screw up something with restore,
just click on tools on the IE toolbar and see what your settings are.
tools/internet options/history button at the bottom.

Set this for the number of days you wish to retain links in your history file.

This didnt work. And I dont remember what the program/software was called.
    "HKey_Current_User>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Intenet Settings>URL history
check for the key DaysToKeep, set the value data to 14(Hexadecimal)."
I dont even have a "daystokeep" file in there.

    Bingo!!

Thats why your URLs are vanishing..lets do it step by step..

    Step 1. Go to --> HKey_Current_User>Software>Microsoft>Windows>CurrentVersion>Intenet Settings>URL history

Step 2. creat a new key value(hexadecimal) and Name it to 'DaysToKeep'

Step 3. Set its value to 14(hexadecimal).

I hope it would solve your problem..

If you like your IE, you don't have to switch to FF or Opera no matter what anybody says. For me, the IE7 beta works about 2x as fast as FF, so I use it too (don't tell anybody)

Now, you might try creating this key:
    HKey_Current_User>Software>Microsoft>Internet Explorer>TypedURLs

This key appears to be where the values that go insided the address bar are stored...

Note: I'm just now looking at your screenshot and realizing that you are using the beta so this might be different in that version (my tip was for IE6)

I don't know if it actually works or not, but based on his instructions you did go too deep.
    You went to \Internest Settings\Cache\History\DaysToKeep
    he said to go
    \Internest Settings\DaysToKeep]

Which is what mine looks like, but STILL looks like overkill, and I would try what Colbyt suggested above... you can get to it right in the Tools menu.
