I re-imaged one of my hard drives and installed Windows 7 on it just to take it for a test drive for awhile (previously using xp) and sofar I'm really liking it. It seems pretty stable and quick on my crappy computer (2.4ghz p4, 2gb ram), and I only got the BSOD about... 7 times sofar? errors(6: MEMORY MANAGMENT, 1: ATTEMPTED TO WRITE TO READ ONLY MEMORY) What do you guys think of it sofar?
I have not given it a proper look yet, but the couple of times that I have used the beta of Windows 7 there appeared to be no problems, and speed was good too. Will probably have a proper look soon
I could imagine that getting annoying after a while. And can you actually use win server for day to day tasks? I never knew!
I have a question. Is Win7 has any compatibility issue with programs made for Windows XP? I have experienced this kind of problem when the first trial of Vista a long time ago and I fed up since then.
i just upgraded to windows 7 and i think its great, i havent had any BSOD yet, the speed is a massive improvment over vista the taskbar is gunna take abit of getting used to though.
i tried a bunch of xp programs (photoshop cs3, firefox, foobar, notepad++, etc) and had no issues and @ the start bar, yeah its awesome and @ being able todo tasks on win server 08, yeah its just like xp
Sorry for my off-topic question but i'm a newbie : Right now i'm running on my desktop Windows XP, is possible to download and install Windows 7 and then keep the dual boot?, is possible to run both OS on the same computer?. Thanks for your help and sorry again for my off-topic post.
Yes it is possible to keep XP and dual boot. It is very easy and I believe that Windows 7 would detect your XP installation and have it as an option to dual boot in the bootloader!!! Windows 7 is a great improvement on Vista but I am happy with my Vista OS at the moment. I have no intention of upgrading until I get left in the dust or I buy a computer with it installed.
I dual booted XP and Win7 for a bit, but win7 put a lot of crap in my xp system dirs, including an entirely new kind of bootloader, which did not like my graphics card, so it was never centered on the screen and i couldn't read half of it. I suggest using a new hdd if you plan to install win7, then just swap them as you want to use one or the other
Yeah you can mate, just try and keep a good, fast and clean system and you should be fine. It's pretty much Windows but can be ran harder when needed to. I wouldn't personally recommend using it for day-to-day use but it's possible I will take a look at Win7 when I get the chance, so far I've only heard good things about it. Slashdot released an article stating it's by far one of the best O/S's Microsoft has released to date... (ex Win2000 hahaha) - A
I bought the pieces to a new system the other day so this computer will become the home server in a week, so it works out well
havent try it out yet, but from much reading on the net, most of people that have tested it like what win7 offer. cant wait for it to be fully release so that I can replace this crap heavy loaded vista os.
I'm still unsure why people changed to Vista and stayed with it...did you expect it would get better?
