Im try to sell a few products. Im a publisher. Well i think more accurately an affiliate. I don't own the product i just try and sell it with my hoplink. But can the buyer get a refund. After the publisher/affiliate has been paid for it? Or is there a limit in time, that they need to request a refund?
The answers to your questions are yes, yes and yes. * The buyer can ask for and receive a refund within 60 days of the purchase date. * You as an affiliate will be paid approx. 14 days after the end of your pay period in which the purchase occurred. * CB do hold back an "allowance" which is meant to cover the cost of refunds which occur past the date of your payment. Example: Your pay period is December 24 - January 7. A sale is made through your hoplink on December 25. You are credited the amount. On January 7 the pay period closes. The following week is a grace period; if a refund is made you are deducted the full amount, and receive nothing. At the end of that week (January 14) your pay cheque is locked in and you will be sent that cheque on the 21 of January. _______________________________________________________ Now the customer still has up until February 24 to ask for a refund. CB calculates that the refund amount will come out of the 10% they held back as an "allowance" from your original payment for that period. Is is a law of averages that the CB "allowance" amount should roughly equal the refunds requested. If you promote high refund products you may end up having a negative balance with CB, which will have to be covered with future sales before you begin receiving a positive balance again. This example assumes a bi-weekly payment schedule. Hope I made it understandable. Cheers
however ... the customer can still do a credit card chargeback at pretty much any time ... even long after the 60 days
rikat, Very good explanation. yes customer can refund after publisher and affiliate gets paid. I once had my ClickBank balance go negative because of massive refunds after I got paid. I don't know if CB would have tried to get any money from me if I stopped AM. Later I got some sames that put me back in black so I don't know what would have happened.
If the buyer paid with a credit card, they could do a charge back even after 3 months (or more?) after the purchase. Also in the case of a charge back the publisher has to pay an additional fee of 18$...
Thats pretty worrying to know. I mean i pay sites to advertize every day. And while it looks like im making profit at the moment, i could be loosing if there is massive refunds. Whats the likelyhood of refunds past 7 days? And what happens if i make 5K in sales, i get a cheque. And then every one is refunded? And i stop running clickbank? Surely they should have some better procedures in place to make sure affiliates don't get burned.
Only if the seller accepts refund can the buyer get his or her money back. That is why in any product you are buying online. If you are not sure then check if the seller accepts refund.
In my experience most refunds are made in that first week. Certainly there are exceptions. I recently had a refund that was made at around the seven week mark (with just a week or so to go to get to 60 days.) But in general most refunds are made in the first week, at least with the products I promote. This is not true. Anyone can get a refund from CB directly with no questions asked. The thing is most buyers don't understand this and don't take the time to figure it out. But some do. As a publisher I've had some buyers who bypass the "ask the publisher if they can refund" and just go directly to CB. I learn about those types of refunds only when CB emails me about them.
So with Paypal. They still get the 60 day refund right? But after that, unlike credit cards. They can't ask for a refund. I wonder what happens in this hyperthetical scenario. An affiliate makes 10 000 sales as $20 a sale. Gets a cheque for $200 000. All of the sales are from different credit cards. All buyers, ask for a refund after the 60 day period. And the person who was paid $200 000 has spent it all or invested it somewhere else. And he can't play clickbank back. And he has stopped promoting clickbank products after that massive month. LOL. A vivid imagination. But one i would like you all to answer! Thanks
chum112 - In such a scenario I'm sure there would be an investigation of some kind. Something like that simply wouldn't happen without massive fraud taking place.
Just make sure you sell a good quality product, make it clear to the buyers what EXACTLY whey will get, and enjoy the refund rate of 1-3%... that's all, no more worries
you will get credited nd paid but if refund is done within 60 days it will b taken off of future payments
Well this is what im doing over the next few days. Im going to be paying a site $100 a day. Which will in turn make me profit. But i don't want to be hit by refunds. Especially after 7 days. Etc Etc. Just makes me worry!
