    Hello...

just a quick couple of question as to the importance of hyphenated domains.

1.) their importance from SEO point of view?

2.) their importance with resale value? for instance: how would a domain such as diet-ing .com sell off?

    thanks for the help.

domain names which contain hyphens have a higher chance of misspelling.
Just think about your site diet-ing.com. It can be spelled as "diet-ing" or "dieting".
There is a higher chance of spelling it as "dieting" rather than the original way.
In that case people are reluctant to go for such domains.
Therefore I don't think that they won't have as much resale value as a normal domain name.

There are advantages and disadvantages to choosing a url with a hyphen. The advantage is that search engines can better distinguish your keywords, making your website a little more SEO friendly. The disadvantage is that it is very easy to forget a hyphen when typing and you run the risk of sending your site’s visitors to your competitor.

Single hyphen is ok from SEO point of view, however for branding purpose a domain with hyphens in it may raise some eyebrows.

I agree. Hyphens that contain hyphenated keywords can be very beneficial to search engines. Search engines can not distinguish words when they run together in a single word (ie. diettips) , the hyphens allow them to see them as distinct words (ie. diet-tips) which if they are keywords, can be helpful. Breaking up a single keyword with hyphens (ie. dieting/diet-ing) IMO is not a good idea.

I know people donot prefer to type hyphen in the address bar. But most of the traffic comes from search engines and they directly click on the link. According to me, there is no problem to resell/pruchase the domain contains hyphen. But if more hyphen included the domain looks ugly.
