Prosper202 Tracking Software and needing its own domain?

Discussion in 'Affiliate Programs' started by pipes, Jan 15, 2009.

For installing the AM/PPC tracking software Prosper202 at a web hosting account, am i understanding this correctly, from what it mentions in the installation?

You need to install it own its own domain, just like you do for your other domains/sites?

And that domain can be whatever you want to call it? like 123tracking.com for example?

I put mine on a subdomain, seems to work fine. No need to buy a domain just for this purpose.

Thanks homey, does the one installation mean you can track the various sites that you want to, or is it one installation of prosper202 per site?

I found prosper202 very tedious to use. Doubling everything you have to do.

You have to come up with your ads in adwords, and then tell prosper202 the ads - so you have to write them all out in p202. THen you have to change every ad in adwords to the new link the software wants you to use.

I just couldnt be botherd with it. If your supposed to have 1000's of keywords, and to get a good quality score, you need no more then 40 in each group, and you need ads for each group, you are looking at days of work just getting it setup!

I'm still looking for somthing easier to use.

Ive installed it and will take a look at it properly later, it may add to my workload but if i feel its worth the effort i wont mind tbh, ive already spent around 2 months researching AM and PPC so il see just how much extra time prosper will require. :)

It seems a popular choice though with many from what ive read?

I'm about the same as you. I've spent ages trying am&ppc. At first i used my own script, but its results werent great -- so i just lost money.

Then i read about prosper202 -- and your right, it gets good reviews, but i just dont get how people can use it. The way you have to tell it EVERY ad that you are going to use -- and you have to go through every keyword to get the code. it drove me nuts - and i just tried it with a few keywords.

If it works for you thats great! Maybe i didnt do it right, i did watch all the videos.

I'm just looking into keyword radar now -- i'll spend a few days reading reviews on here before i do anything else though.

I'm sure i could get affiliate marketing working if i could just find the right keyword tracker!!!

    Good luck pipes! :)

Well I looked into it pipes, and it really does look like prosper202 is the best you can get.

I looked into affiliate rader, keyword radar, and a few more, and the reviews and reports on dp are that prosper202 does what they do -- only free.

So i guess i'll have to give it another go, or write my own :)

    Cheers.

Sometimes things can be worth the extra effort, especially if their free, it does seem a popular choice and a regularly recommended tracker. :)

No, i tried it again and it still sucks.

The main problem for me is this...

Say you have 5 adgroups. And in each adgroup you have 100 keywords.

You set your first cost per click to $1.

You get your code of prosper202 -- a link like mysite.com/page.php?t202=43434

You then put this link in adwords. Thats fine.

    BUT

You let your campaign run for a day, and every keyword you want to adjust the price of, you have to go back into prosper202 regenerate new links and change the cpc, and then change the link of individual keywords in adwords.

If that is right (and i think it is, as i asked on the p202 forum), it seems too much of a pain to me -- especially when it would be possible to output all the data needed from google adwords downloadable tool, and you could just inport/export all the data.

Sorry for keep jumping in your thread pipes. I'll leave you to it now! haha.

    Cheers.

:) that does seems like a lot of work indeed, il still take a llok at setting it up soon myself and see how i feel about it, i guess there are other tools out there that may be easier to work with but maybe expensive, i will have to research a little.

Dont apologise :) im actually glad of the feedback and your opinion on how you feel about prosper.

I tried Prosper202 once, had issues installing and then built my own tracking and never looked back. It is not open and the code was encrypted so I couldn't even tell why it wasn't working. After a day of trying to figure it out, I was done.

I tried making my own tracking, but it was very bad :( It cost me a lot because of bad tracking.

I'm trying to work on my own -- By using exported csv files form adwords editor, i wouldnt have to enter any keyword cpc data, and i would get the real stats.

If i ever make somthing i will release it on here. :)

I tried to install Prosper202 and it completely messed up my wordpress site.. definitely didn't follow the instructions correctly.. Beware, this is one that might be worth paying someone to install :)

It looks like i wont be able to use prosper, it appears to be more ideally suited to being used with the affiliate networks.

Im currently organising a campaign that is not through a network, just an independant affiliate program.

Prosper is needing subid's, i dont see anything to do with those in the affiliate program that im with.

Any alternatives for AM/PPC tracking, that are free or possibly paid (not too expensive) that anyone else is using? ideally something that doesn't require you to be using the affiliate networks.

I have prosper on my main domain xyz.com - if I start a sub domain under xyz.com - lets say abc.xyz.com do I have to install prosper again on the sub domain so that it track it or will it automatically track the sub domains?

    Thanks
