What are you talking about? In many countries the age of consent is 14. Maybe you think that's too low, but don't project your own morality onto the rest of the world.

But we should acknowledge over a societal issue like the age of consent that different countries have different laws, practices and customs, that many millions of people think of them as normal, and that there isn't an automatic assumption that what we're used to ourselves as the norm is "right" and everyone else is automatically "wrong".

You´re joking, right? So if you have sex with a minor in some other country it makes it alright, just because the laws are different? Just because in some countries the government hands out heroin to addicts, makes it ok do shoot up? Don´t get me wrong, because this is obviously not as bad as someone being with a girl like let´s say under 10, but still, the dude should find a girl his own age. Every child has a right to have a childhood. Once 18 you´re on your own. I live in Costa Rica, and trust me, there are many who come here because they get away with having sex with minors here. I´m not exactly sure if indeed girls that age *like* having a boyfriend that age, but regardless, this is about protecting kids and enabling them to have a good upbringing without some older dude taking advantage of them. And yeah, you need to get over your ex. But still you´ve brought up an important issue. I´m not saying that if a 17 year old girl has a 19 yr old bf, it´s necessarily bad, but legally speaking the line needs to be drawn somewhere.
well i dated a guy 4 years older than me when i was 13. We lasted around 3 years.. I didn't turn out so bad. Everyone has "learning experiences" in their life. As long as the 19 year old isn't pressuring her to be with him, like tying her down in his apartment or something, I guess there isn't much you can do about it. The truth is, even if you told her she couldn't be with him, she'd find a way to anyway... so let her make her mistakes and learn her lessons.. and who knows maybe it wont be a mistake and they might actually make it. ?

Trini27 The age difference is COMPLETELY wrong and immoral. It would be different. if the age was 21 and 27. What is a 13 year old doing dating anyway? Where are her parents ? This would never happen at my house. Next thing you know this 19 year old will be baby sitting little girls and its obvious where that will go from here.
