How long takes to transfer a domain?

    Hi,

    I'm waiting for 3 days for my domain to be transferred and those from where I have my domain said this is automated.

    Depends on the Registra as far as I know.

    For instance, I have transferred domains from Tiscali to Fasthosts which takes around 12 hours, then of course it takes around another 48 hours to populate - I suppose it all depends on how fast the new registra tag is added

    I have seen it happen in a few hours and my most recent experience was about 5 days.

    Even with all the proper codes sunmitted the losing registar has to release it before it can transfer.

    Fair comment - Especially when the losing registar is losing revenue. Saying that, I have found most are quite good, as I assume it is swings and roundabouts. As some registar's lose domains, they also gain from the transfers in..

    Depending on registars from few moments to few days (my longest was 7 days)

    In all honesty, I have never waited more than an hour. And I was surprised at that.

    Just as an FyI, you can throw your site up on a new host and access it by just using your IP address. This comes in handy when you transfer to a new host or put up a new site and want to access it from the web to check links etc..
