I think the two should be kept seperate, choose one or the other, but not both for a site.

I also think that forum should be separate (even in sub-domain, ex. forums.yourdomain.com)

actually, it depends on what the blog is all about, sometimes the visitor contributions needs to be alot more than just blog commenting, this where the forums comes in, but still, not recommended.

I just read your blog post and the reasons there seem to be complete. Although you have mentioned some top bloggers who have no forum, Steve Pavlina who is doing good in his forum and blog simultaneously. He's even doing a great sale for his books.

I've never heard of him. That's cool though to see someone who has a successful blog and forum. What niche is he in?

I can't believe you don't know him. He's very popular for his forum. He even decided to drop out Adsense from his blog last year, that will make him loose $100k a year

Anyway, his niche is Personal Development for Smart People . He writes very long posts, but very interesting to read. I may not agree with some of his principles in life, but I admire his strategies and strength.

Here is his blog - http://www.stevepavlina.com/

What are some of the things you don't agree with (just out of curiosity)?

But nope, I've never heard of the guy.
