What is better...

What is better? a domain name with keywords in it, or a short random name...

Example if I were to buy one domain and my options were:

which one is the best? the one with "-" in it?
the one with the "dot com"
or if the keyword rich is best then what extension is better? "us", "me"?

I mean I know that the rich keyword domain gets better indexing, but my main doubt is about the domain extension is it a .us better than a .me is it the .com? or is it the same when the domain is keyword rich?

    :confused::confused::confused:

I agree. Stick with ".com" ".net" or ".org"

I'd go with the short .com

If you used desktopwallpapersfor.me or one of the others return visitors may mistakenly just type in desktopwallpapersfor.com by habit.

If .com and .net are not availbale, desktopwallpapersfor.me would be a good choice. On this case, I would not go for domains with separators on their name. It would be easy for your visitors to remember your URL if there is no dashes included.

Actually domain names with your keyword on it,... has lot of advantage with regards to the rankings just use .com because many people is familiar on it.

thanks for your posts, the question popped up in my mind because I wanted to create an arcade site but, obviously all the good names were taken....
then I thought of a 4 letter domain name that was catchy but had no keywords, then I found a great domain easy to remember, and with keywords..
I hope I didnt screw up L0L cause I ended up buying the domain http://freegamesfor.us I guess its a little longer than the 4L domain I had first in mind but i like this one better currently installing the arcade script... what do you think, am I screwed? btw Im planning on promoting it by social bookmarks..
with bookmarkingdemon, what other strategy do you think will work, I was planning on link exchanges and directorys...

I read somewhere that, in searches, Google ignores the hyphen in a domain name

That's not true but there are some other reasons why you should avoid hyphens in your domain..

Do not take domains contains "-". It may be leading for some extent.
Always try to choose a .com domain. If not, go for a .net domain.
For more information refer this article How to select a proper Domain name

as such there are very less .me and .us domains so you must go for .com domains

the comparision in these would be .us better than .me

Of course, KW within the domain is an advantage.
When choosing the URL for your domain, avoid hyphen as much as possible.

.me is fine and ranks well. Don't listen to the na sayers. if you can grab a .me with a keyword rich name then do it!

I have a .me in the top 10 in yahoo and msn for a hot product right now with only on page optimization.

.me is just fine. the keyword in you domain is more important than you extension.
