I'm considering getting an MBA...

Just graduated this past April with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. Unfortunately, I don't have any desire at all to work in this field.

I have always been drawn towards sales, marketing, and entrepreneurship. Since being out of school I've developed a few websites that are already making close to $2000 a month.

I want to get an MBA, and focus on entrepreneurship. I feel that with a solid educational background I will be more confident and able to take on and develop bigger projects. After doing some research it looks like I need at least 2 years of experience to get into a good MBA program. Does anyone have any experience with the admission process? Is 2 years work absolutely required? I wonder if they could count my Internet Marketing and Web Development as applicable experience?

Any tips, advice, thoughts, suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Over here (UK) some MBA programs in top universities won't take people without at least 2 years of work experience; others will take a proportion of entrants directly after doing a first degree.

I suspect that an MBA (even in these economic circumstances) is great for becoming a corporate employee, but that what you'd learn and the skills you'd acquire from doing one, regarding "self-employment entrepreneurship" are probably just as easily acquired in other ways (and perhaps at far lower expense?)

    Good luck!

Yea I gotta agree with you there.

After doing some more research looks like the best programs need 2 years work experience. Not to mention the tuition costs are on average $30,000.

I guess I could just take some marketing and business development courses at a local college?

I just recently purchased Eben Pagan's GET ALTITUDE program, which is supposed to rank up there with even the highest quality University MBA education as he had a proven system that works, and he has done it himself!

Fingers crossed it works out :)

If you want to do coursework , then you can start anytime. In most cases, they have minimum requirement of pointers from your Bachelor Degree. Check with your U.

Hey bro, I'm in the exact same scenario as you. I'm also a rising webmaster with a bachelors, and I am actually in the process of applying to a few schools right now.

Your tenure as an internet marketer & webmaster IS applicable work experience, and if you emphasize the fact that you're a budding entrepreneur, you will have an edge against peer applicants your age. There is no actual work experience requirement, and there are a few applicants that make it in top tier business schools right after undergrad.

You majored in a very respectable field of study, and so long as your GPA and test scores are high I'm sure you can make it in a top 30 school.

Thank you very much for your post.

I am confident that I can "sell" myself well enough to get into a respectable MBA program. Now I just need to weigh the cost and time benefit ratio.

If you ask me all these courses are just waste, we do MBA but do we really learn anything out of it? is it helpful in anyway for your life? well yes it gets you a social status it does only that.. other than that if you want to develop yourself and really concerned about developing your skills, I would suggest you throw yourself to the world, as you mentioned you already making good money out of online trading perhaps you can think of developing that on a larger scale and get in to many ventures.. If I were you I wont mind about getting a MBA I will just try to make as much as risks possible as it is the age where you can take some risks and learn a lot out of it, rather than sitting in a class room and staring at the white board.. lol.. To me college sucks me big time but I am doing it for my family thats it. But when you have a free will I would suggest go ahead and try out new things and learn through experience that would be more valuable than a MBA degree

    regards.
