Hey Everybody! I was just wondering if anyone in here has any experience with placing ads in their forum system, because lately i have been working on a big website with my good friend, and I have made a forum system on the the website, I know that this will generate a lot of traffic. So my question to everyone is; Adsense in forum ? Yes / No - why ?
Good luck. Forum click through is very low because the intent of people visiting forums is to learn or talk. If your forum is very targeted to a product or service people are looking to buy and you have tons of traffic you might make it worth while. Why not participate in DP Rev share and find out for yourself.
I would say yes to forum advertising however not with adsense, I tried it in the past and although it brought in some good money it wasn't alot. A suggestion would be to put up affiliate banners and get a larger payout that way. As an example you could have 1000-2000 people on your forum and get say 200 clicks and maybe come out with $20, whereas if you have an affiliate banner running you could chose the payout you wanted to display depending on your forum and earn double that for 1 click. Its worth testing.
I noticed forums on active domain names gives good income! if you have done perfect placement in the forums something like large rectangles on header & footer
I administer a highly-targeted (automotive) forum, and have been generally pleased with its Adsense performance. Revenue is lower than for my non-forum sites, but Adsense still represents my forum's #1 source of revenue. One tip that I would strongly recommend is to disable the Adsense for logged viewers, and ONLY show the ads to non-logged viewers. Logged viewers (your "regulars") are much less likely than non-logged users ("guests") to click on your Adsense ads. Another benefit to this approach is that it can actually boost the number of "lurkers" who sign up for your forum. While people in general are much more accepting of Adsense advertising (than, say, 5 years ago), there still are some folks who get annoyed by these ads. For this group, registration in your forum offers an added benefit insofar as they no longer need to view ads.
It is always depend on traffic, but the click through rate was very low... It also depend on what kind of forum... If a forum is talking about making money like affiliate, adsense etc, i believe all of the forum member will not like to click the banner or link. But if forum discuss like car, game, etc and advertisement show related ads, that's a chance get click...... DP forum still earning a lot of money through adsense, i believe the click through rate not that high, but traffic is terrible....
Doesn't make a difference whether you have affiliate banners or run Google Adsense. Google Adsense CPC depends on the conversion thus you will most likely earn the same. The problem is the low CTR. People get used to your advertisements and will no longer click them. Check out this post about Adsense placements for Forums. It's written for vbulletin but applies to other form software as well.
