I updated a site recently and changed most of my sub-page names. I actually think it helped. Anyways, all those pages that were changed are still indexed, will they disappear over time? Thanks _______
Once they're in the index, Google keeps trying to crawl URLs that return 404 errors for a very long time. This isn't necessarily a bad thing for your rankings unless those pages had a lot of links from other sites. If they did have external links, you should set up server code 301 redirects for the old URL pointing to the new URL in order to keep credit for the link(s). Otherwise, the old URLs will eventually fall out of the index and Google will stop trying to crawl them.
they will yes, but somestimes they can keep coming back after months. it's kinda weird sometimes. try fixing everything with 301/410 redirects!
In your case, you just change the sub-page names, and not url, right? Of course google will still able to find it as it's still active.
You can also send in a request in Google Webmaster Tools to have a defunct page taken out of the index.
As you have mentioned that you have changed only the sub-pages name. Not to worry, have patient. It will surely index with your latest page info. Btw previously how often your website crawled (home page as well other pages) ? Wait till that moment. Hope every relevant sub-pages are linked from home page.
you need not to worry about it........ as its not your job.. Google will done it for you.........cheers
