How do you think if the Global financial crisis will have any positive or negative influence on online marketing sector? Can the current situation raise an additional interest in online marketing services? Thanks in advance!

It can be both a blessing and a curse. For instance I have a partnership with a large media company which owns a lot of large TV, magazines, and websites. They provide me with major advertisers on a high CPM ($5-$8) and now they are having problems with their fill rates which hurts my website as the alternatives to put up on our website don't pay nearly as much ($1-$3 EPM).

But also my company owns a jobs website where it is targeted to a specific region in the United States. We have seen the searches for our keywords jump by about 650% because of all of the people looking for jobs. This is a bad thing for most but it has helped somewhat our website. I think overall it will hurt online business somewhat because some advertisers may not have as many choices which means the CPC will go down because there is not as many people to compete with.

I noticed networkers are now more reluctant to spend money joining programs since the financial crisis.

Sales have gone down some for me but my traffic is still converting decently well. So, I haven't noticed a huge impact myself. I still expect to make more money this year than I did last year.

It is difficult to feel either positive or negative impact in any online business, but I think that the global regression will create an additional demand for internet marketing services in the nearest future!

It's according to what you are selling, but sales for many products, of course, will drop some, but nothing major.

People will always need, WANT things to buy, like clothes, books, info for making money and love....

My girlfriend and I go out to eat a lot, and here in Charleston, South Carolina, one of the hardest hit cities and states, many of the restaurants are busy.

They know that they should stock the money away to pay the bills, but they would rather go out to eat.

When I see parking lots that are filled or almost-filled in one of the most hardest hit areas in the U.S., I know I have no worries.

I sell e-books on dating, advertising and marketing. They WANT those things, so....

If people want something, they will find a way to get it.

It is your job to make it easier for them to get it.

If you do not do your job, like to advertise, buy traffic, and or have a nice site for them to visit, well, then, the economy will eat you too.

It will be, basically, your own fault.

    EDITED TO ADD:

Has Amazon sales gone down? If so, by how much?

    There ya go.

I am sure that overall the effect will be negative as most companies cut spending.

Nevertheless, as more and more become unemployed and as people go online more and more some of this negative influence may cancel out.

We have not seen any slow down on our ad network.

The nice thing about recessions and layoffs is the number of new business startups increases dramatically which is the life blood of North American economy. New businesses always use marketing techniques including PPC and all the other methods of advertising.

Its really sad that people are getting laid off and salaries are getting squeezed. Having said that I think its a good opportunity if you want to start or expand your own online business.. As copper12 said people are always going to buy things so if you can provide them value, they will come to your site.

Remember on Thanksgiving day there were record online sales , so I think people are looking for good bargains and they can find it online....

    Regards,
    Anup

I run a free classified ads site http://www.jihoy.com. What I notice is that while adsense/adword prices goes down, the search volume for keywords has gone up anywhere from 30% to 60%+! However, there seems to be a lot more free classified ads sites competing. Page views per user also seems to be going up, as there are more people browsing classifieds listings.

I have seen no problems with the online market in fact I think that most
people are turning to purchasing items online because they can find better
deals online than on the highstreet.

Less brick and mortar jobs, more people searching solutions online.

Web is the best alternative since overheads are almost zero.

The disadvandage is that you need a lot of work in order to reach the point of paying the bills.

As far as I see the regression doesn't affect internet marketing sector seriously! But none knows what will be in the nearest future!
