I think this would be a great poll for some of our more successful members. It would give an idea to everyone of maybe what they should be concentrating on to increase traffic and hopefully clicks. So what is your bread & butter when it comes to getting the eyes? 1.) Free search engines 2.) Links on other sites 3.) Paid advertisements (including pay per click search engines and Adwords) 4.) Forum postings (including signatures) 5.) Other
Other. - 90% of my traffic comes from boomarks or direct url. Each month 25% of my visitors bookmark my site [30,000 uniques out of 128,000], so every month, I have 25% more visitors than last time around - 7-8% from Google - 2% MSN YAhoo.
Interesting. I get about a 10% bookmark rate. But how do you know that the people who bookmark you are actually returning via the bookmark? Does a 10% bookmark rate translate into a 10% month over month traffic increase?
It depends what they've bookmarked your website for.. if your website has a useful tool then most likely it'll be an overall increase in traffic..
It would, if I wasn't for the fact I'm so lazy. lol. I do constant updates, the nI get bored with it all, and so I stop, and so my visitors drop also, then I get back in and do some good back to back updates over n over for a couple of weeks, and then stop again for a week or 2, and so the cycle continues. I generally get about... 4 uniques per day at the worst, but when I do continual updates for say.... a month or 2, I get 7,000 uniques per day. But I'm just lazy and let it slide down to about 4k again, before I get in and sit down and do another set of updates. I rank poorly in SE's since I have no knowledge of SEO etc, so I'm slowly teaching myself how to improve my site for SERP's.

The largest amount of visitors come from Google and other search engines. I'd guess at around 60%. The rest is a combination of traffic from links on other sites and bookmarks.
Bookmark rate isn't really accurate anymore, since amny browsers use the favicon whether the side is added to favourites or not
i got many of my traffic through search engine..but i found blog posting and social bookmarking a very good source of backlinks and getting alot of traffic through blogs.. as they appear on almost top of both searches i.e general search and especiliazed search only for blogs
