Yes, but we have to consider all the duplicate content... i think we could shrink it quite significantly if we were to streamline it a bit... i mean how many people have uploaded the same images all around the world... it all adds up :S and since broadband speeds keep increasing, so does the size of files etc uploaded onto the internet
As I understand it (as I recall, I heard this on an NPR program) Google caches all of the sites it indexes. Among other "sources," I also saw blog posts about the net about a blog service suddenly going under and people using Google's caches to attempt to recover their blogs. So, (excepting, obviously, that "part" not yet indexed) is not Google "downloading" the internet?
Yeah this is true, but Google cache isn't a full copy of the website. When it comes to dynamic content such a article on Wordpress, Google caches that but if you edit something like the CSS file, it'll effect the Cache as well, so it's only a partial "copy" of the indexed files.

Thats true, Remove all the porn *why would anyone want to do that?* And remove all the duplicate content and it'd be alot smaller, not to mention that the internet is basically growing, you'd need to stop everyone in the world from adding something while you was trying to download.
Yeah, this is pld. There are some other funny animations like moving Taj Mahal from Agra to Delhi etc.
