What are the implications of a backlink form a site marked as harmful?

I've discovered that one of my sites has a back link from a site that has been marked as "potentially harmful".

Is that likely to cause me any problems? It is a natural backlink, I did not create it or have any control over it. I do not link to the site myself or any of the content on there; it is a one way link to me.

Logic tells me there shouldn't be a problem but I wanted to check.

    Thanks,

    Bagless

No problem. Just imagine competitors placing links in bad sites... :)

One "bad" backlink can be no problem, don't worry :) It is also important the % of "good" links and not the number of "bad".

Thanks for the replies, it is easy to panic sometimes and miss the logical answer.

Should be OK. I had a site hacked and Google labelled our site as Harmful - Google left us where we were (No.4 for a very competitive term). So I wouldn't think it will affect your site.

Even so - check that you've not been hacked too.

I've also had 1000 dirty links pointed at a site by a competitor - didn't damage rankings at all.

Ye, backlinks from dodgy sites aren't a problem. Linking to bad sites, that will get you penalized by Google.

Certainly haven't and wont be linking to the site, it's purely one way, pointing to me!

You can't control who links to you, only who you link to...and Google knows this.

What is your niche? I can't imagine that somebody is doing this. I feel it is easier to get from the 20th position to the 1st position by my own link building than build 1,000s of bad links for my competitors.

you will be fine. it would only be a bad thing if you link to websites that can be qualified as "potentially harmful" as you call it

Nothing to worry about it mate. If google would penalize for that all competitors will start placing links in those harmful sites,
