What is the best way to generate traffic for free?

Hi all,
What do you think is the best way to generate traffic for free? I am only intersted in quality traffic.

I am currently working on:

- SEO
- Posting in blogs/forums.
- Directories
- Word of mouth/MSN

Any other suggestions? I can invest as much time and hard work as is needed - but right now i don't want to spend money (only time and hard work )

 

word of mouth in the short term (see that types of stuff work on Stumbleupon and replicate)

SEO in the long-term.

 

Yeah im working on SEO right now for the long term... but still need some traffic meanwhile. Oh yeh and im submitting the website to websites such as Digg, stumbleupon, reddit, etc. All this has actually helped quite a bit... but still looking for new good ways to generate even more traffic quickly and effectively.

Stumbled works okay for one day traffic spikes for me, but Digg is pretty much useless unless you are one of the elite few who can get anywhere near the top.

 

if your post goes popular stumbleupon spike lasts like 3 days. And you get PLENTY of backlinks which is the more important fact.

 

Advertise it on craigslist in the appropriate catagory.

 

I've found the best free advertising methods are social bookmarking and article submissions.

 

forums posting can work pretty good too if ur site or topic is related to the forums policies. Most of the forums though maynot allow posting of links. U can however add it in ur signature.

 

Forums and blogs posting will bring you some traffic if you posting in forums and blogs which are related to your site and if you choose good anchor texts for links in signatures.

You can also try to make a representation video and add to all video sharing portals you know, for example youtube.com . It could help some too.

 

You can try answering question on Yahoo Answers. If you have a niche website you can answer questions for your particular niche and then leave a link to your site in the Source section.

 

in the early days...go to other blogs in your niche...comment...give good comments. Also have good posts on your own blog.

 

Probably worth buying ads like google ads ect.

 

social networking... like facebook, myspace...

Creating a promotional video always helps. Submit it to the likes of Youtube and Metacafe.

 

Although we usually get bombarded by many kinds of latest promoting technic, for me probably some of the best free promotion technic that I also implemented are still Joint venture & forum marketing. In term of getting fast, quality and targeted traffic.. I've done it myself and it really works!

depends on the niche and product....what is it? a service or product. that will tell you how to market it.

 

SEO is a loss-leader. I am a big fan of SEO and enjoy the challenge of SEO. When it boils down to creating traffic using SEO is becoming the biggest waste of time ever existed. Search Engines Algorithms change so frequently. If these algorithms didn't change the rules would eventually be discovered and the best would always be on Top 10 in SERPs. The objective here is that 99.99% of business/site owners would eventually look for other ways such as paid advertising or other billboard advertising. Eventually you will have to pay for advertising, at the beginning we're all writing on the bathroom walls until we can afford to get on the main stream.

You miss something extremely important way.

You have to do article marketing. It bring lots of traffic.It really works.

Just write a couple high quality article and submit them to ezinearticles and other great articles directories.

It takes a complete combination of all the above that you originally mentioned in your post when you started this thread. Each one compliments the other where it lacks.

 

as for me, i do social media marketing. yeah...just do commenting people on social networks like myspace, facebook, etc and letting your site on it will also bringing much traffic for you. and sure it's fully free. am i wrong to do this...lol...
