First I apologies if this post should be placed elsewhere....but I could not find a more suitable place... Recently I found my two sites...............one is getting higher page views and unique visits but lower Alexa rank, while the other is quite the opposite - lower page views and less visits but higher Alexa rank... Can't figure out how this happened. Need your advice! Thanks!
Don't rely much on Alexa rank, they can't give you right statistics. I heard also a news before that Alexa rank can be manipulated.
Page views from visitors who are using the Alexa Toolbar will increase your Alexa Ranking, otherwise it won't be affected
More you concentrate on traffic and visibility, forget about PR. Concentrate more on SEO work and can gain 250k Alexa ranking easily..
hi katty, thanks for advice but i'm talking about page views vs alexa not page rank...of course i know page rank does not count~
Don't worry about Alexa anyway. There has been a lot of issues on how they determine traffic ranking because basically their system can't capture the information well unless the button widget is placed on the site or the visitor has the toolbar installed. Accuracy is in question here.
Well I can't give you an exact answer, but here's how I assume ive done it - I have 3 PC's, each has a different Internet Connection (so different IP). Alexa can only calculate data from people who also use the Alexa Toolbar, I have this toolbar on all 3 PCs and visit my blog twice a day from each. It got to about 250,000, has dropped to about 350k now and my blog wasn't even making 100 unique visitors a day. That's my explanation anyway...
You can set a meta refresh up on your site and get it to about 50k but you will struggle getting past that + you will need at least 100 unique a day to do it. The only thing alexa is good for is showing if a sites active or not IMO
To calculate rank Alexa considers the page views and the global user reach. Global user reach may be the factor which may be effecting the ranks of these sites. Global reach is probably calculated with the incoming links to your site and your ranking/traffic from search engines.
