    Just as a FYI, I'm going to keep this thread updated with what's actually running on the new servers so far...

    Backend = database portion
    Frontend = web server portion

    The forums probably will be a bit faster only because the ultra-high traffic stuff has been offloaded from the "old" DB server. Currently they still share the same web servers though (for the moment anyway).

    Thanks for the update Shawn! :)
    When do you think the forums will be on the new servers?

    If the existing database stuff I moved seems good and stable, I might see about moving keyword tracker and forums to the new DB servers.

    Probably not until next week for front-end stuff (web servers). There's a lot of things you need to take into account when you move to a web cluster (for example when you need to share something in memory with more than one physical server). Memcached will handle that, but requires some backend changes for stuff.

    Thanx for the update. :)

    BTW, what are doing with your old servers? DBs would be shared across servers?

    Database for the keyword tracker is on the new servers. Had to rewrite the DB class to support a multi-DB server setup (writes go to one server, reads go to a group of slaves).

    The Geo Visitors tool is the first item to utilize the web server cluster on the blades.

    The web server processes are a little tricky to move over since most things use shared memory or write stuff to the file system (4 individual web servers clustered together each have their own shared memory and file system, which means a lot of stuff needs to be re-architected... which I'm working on).

    The front-end for the ad network stuff (ads.digitalpoint.com) has been moved to the web server cluster. Had to change some stuff so the shared memory items were updated on all web servers and the daily log parsing process gathers logs from all servers first.

    Also, you should start noticing the forum to be faster over the next 24 hours as the DNS TTL on ads.digitalpoint.com and geo.digitalpoint.com start expiring and people moving over to the new stuff. That will offload all web processes from the "old" machine except the forum, so it doesn't need to share resources anymore.

    These forums were (finally) moved to the web server cluster rather that using a single web server (database server for forums was on DB server cluster already). That one took a little longer because there was a lot of stuff to recode (basically can't write any files to disk since the other web servers wouldn't see it).
