It's one of those UNLIMITED hosting companies who offer Unmetered hosting for $10 and do these things, And ya I am talking about the majorities, Maybe your story is not the same - Imran
Yes, they use the theory that Most people do not use more than 5% of their available space and bandwidth. However a lot of people do, and that's when things like that happen.
If you manage your services well, it doesn't happen. I have a policy in place which allows 2% disk space exceeding and 8% bandwidth.
I am of the opinion that overselling shouldn't occur unless the web host is able to monitor the server constantly.
Only a handful of companies that provide web hosting do not oversell. Mine would be one, not advertising my name or anything, but the good companies are the ones that fulfill their promises and guarantee you a certain amount of space monthly. Not even then, with HostGator you run into overselling BIG time, and I've had the "transfer" failed come up at least 20 times, when I hosted with them...
lol, that happened because some people actually believe that Unlimited Space exists, you should spread that around the internet and show that unlimited has a limit.
What's sad is people believe this... HD's are expensive, especially when referring to the grade that a web hosting company must use. Roughly $500.00 a HD and the company pays that off in about 6 months depending on the size....
Unlimited and cheap is a bad combination. By offering unlimited space and BW for $2, $3 month, they actually offering nothing but troubles. People don't realize that.
