I think google analytics is the best website tracking tool available! Its superb, it will tell you absolute everything about your traffic visitors.

I never used Awstats ... but of coz analytics is better than extreme tracker. one drawback i see in analytics is that it doesnt take me directly to the SERPs page of google/yahoo/MSN whereas xtremem tracker is v effective for this.
    any ideas?

Just try them both - you will likely have a different favorite than many other people

    AW Stats is more accurate...

A lot of people use FF+NNS which will block the Google Script from running.

I think Microsoft adCenter Analytics is winning ground as well. It offers some great features: automatic outbound link tracking, demographics (although still a large pool remains unknown) and Treemap overviews.

As a web user rather than webmaster I frequently notice that I wait for pages to load due to google content - both google ads and google analytics.

Are you not comparing apples with orages here since awstats works from your server log and will not cause any delay in page load times. Whereas GA nhas onpage script which has to be fetched from a different server.

Suspect many don't notice these things as they have a fast connection.

Sure I'm far from the only person whose response to a page which I've clicked from SE results and fails to load in a couple of seconds is to skip that site entirely and move to the next result.

    How does extreme tracker work?

I check both the awstats and GA. Each has its unique points of reference.
