Often when I search the internet, often SEO tips and advice come up which are from 3-4 years ago or older [Often from authority sites]. I am pretty sure that many of those are useless or much less effective. So what do you think or feel are the outdated [Yet not general public knowledge] SEO techniques which are still doing the rounds or coming up in search engine results?
Article marketing still give good results for me. Targeted visitors + increase backlinks. Link exchanges are out
Yeah, and hidden text as well. Here's a great post on the topic of outdated SEO tactics. http://www.seoptimise.com/blog/2008...rms-tactics-vs-their-modern-alternatives.html
well, i'd say the few things that's been mentioned are more black hat seo techniques. i'd say some outdated seo techniques are meta keywords and submissions to link directories like dmoz. those 2 specifically used to be the "must-do" of seo, but now it's near the bottom on the seo priority list.
Well, it really depends. Google and Yahoo have a bit different outlook on somethings. link farms, stuffing, reciprical links, etc... are all definantly out but Yahoo still uses Meta, H1 etc... I have a few eCommerce site, so yahoo traffic is worth trying to get. It doesn't take long to get Meta squared away on our site when you are doing page titles and such. I would probably say something perhaps considered outdated would be regular backlings, they are almost worthless without anchors these days
Title and meta descriptions are STILL very important. Meta Keyword tags are less valuable, but don't hurt. Recipricol linking is useless unless the site linking to you has a good deal more authority and it highly related to your content. Stuffing keywords as far as keyword density is less valuable and potential worthy of a penalty by Google's auto filters. Stuffing anchor text links in the footer is also worthy of a penalty and less valuable. Cloaking of any kind is bad. From experience, don't overuse displaynone at all even if it's good for your users. Google hates this. Most white hat SEO has stood the test of time.
My sites has been affected by heavy reciprocal ranking ...now i have removed all the irrelevant reciprocal links from my sites and my rankings are stable now
Copies of the same article to 100 article directories - useless. Submitting your site to 500 directories - not very helpful. Hmm I guess that makes 90% of the services in the sevices forum a waste of time.
Article submissions, text link building (contributing valuable content to blogs, forums, etc), meta description, page title.
