I'm sure you're right, Alexa, but like climbing Everest, I think the answer is, "because it's there."

 

I hear you, I think; but there's possibly a key difference, too? Everest doesn't need to have people continuing to take notice of it to stay there?

 

You can improve you Alexa ranking by joining entrecard dot com. It is a sort of traffic exchange site and it is for free. I am now at 131,000. What I don't know is if it's bad for your sites because of the bounce rates.

I hope people will finally understand that Alexa is the most useless "tool" in existence.

 

I think the best ways to improve alexa rank are:
1. Put on Alexa widget on your blog / website
2. Do the blogwalking to your friends' blogs which are also putting widget alexa on, so that they can visit your site more often
3. Instal Alexa toolbar on your IE browser or you can use add-on Sparky for your FireFox
4. Refresh your own site more often
5. Traffic and traffic. It's all it matters to improve your Alexa rank.

 

alexa ranking means absolutely nothing. it can be some of an indicator of the popularity of a website but there is nothing you can do to 'improve' it other than get more web visitors to your site. but again, it is useless and you should not care about this.

 

Yeah, becoming overly concerned with your Alexa Ranking is pretty pointless. Just focus on what matters. Getting your sites higher in the SERPS and making more money.

 

I guess Alexa ranking purely depends on the traffic to your site. But, i have also heard that it is also highly manipulative and can really be deceptive at times..

i, myself, like all the ranking tools like alexa, compete, and quantcast, so you should use all 3. none of them are perfect, but it gives you a good idea of where you stand. however, with that said, don't be concerned with traffic ranking because there are millions of sites getting created every day so you might rank 1M today, then rank 500K tomorrow. i'd be more concerned with unique monthly visitors (ad agencies love this metric) and inbound links (the more, the better, but the more quality, even better).

Damn too bad no one here places too much value on Alexa. My rank has went up ~5-6 million over 3 months, lol.

 

Alexa ranking is based on the number of visitors to the site so You have to improve your visitor frequency to the site.
