What is the best way to sustain or improve your Alexa Ranking? Should I care? PS. I thought this was the best category to post this topic under, but if not could the moderators please move it to the right place.
you could install the alexa booster or the alexa toolbar and set your home page as the default page and surf your own site a few times a day but all your doing is boosting your own ego as alexa ranking has not been that important for many years if it can be manipulated that easily then what good is it ?
I have done all that - but I assume that if you have a static IP address it will only count my visit as once, however many times I log on? I'm not sure Alexa is important at all - does anyone know if it is used by other organisations as a measure of the stature of a site? And there is no denying that the top 100 is probably a reasonably accurate reflection of the popularity of sites. When you get outside 100,000 (which I am - my business is very much a niche one so I am never going to compete with facebook or Ebay) it probably doesn't reflect much at all. Nevertheless outside the arcane world of webmasters few people have ever heard of Alexa, but it could be useful to state in avertising something like "The highest ranked website in this retail sector in the UK (or wherever) - source: Alexa Web Ranking". For whatever reason that sort of stuff impresses some people. Thanks for the replies
I am not sure.I think this sugessition not support Alaxa rules and regulation. You need to carefully read Alaxa rules.
I'm not saying that anyone should do it, what i am saying is your ranking can be manipulated very easy, the alexa booster uses proxies from all around the world so as far as anyone is concerned no one would know if its a human or bot hence the reason you can change your ranking I used alexa booster about 6 years ago when I used it for testing purposes, but as I said as your only kidding yourself because as soon as you stop running it your position starts to slide back down again it would be true to say though that the more traffic you get to your site if any of these visitors have the alexa tool bar installed this will boost your rating with alexa and likewise if you do the same with your browser you will change your alexa ranking slightly nothing there what is breaking any rules as far as I can see ?
Alexa is important because there aren't too many other measures of traffic on the internet. We also have Compete, Quantcast and some other sites, but there really isn't anything that can give a good indication of your traffic to a third party. What niche are you in? Some sites simply won't have high Alexas because they are in some non regular niche and target people who have never heard of Alexa in their lives. Alexa have tried to improve their algorithm in recent times though, to make it less prone to manipulation.
I have just received alexa ranking around 200000k with in 3 months. I don't know how. But I did very hard work on my website. here is my site
I think it depends on more visitors. I dont know exactly but try to get more and more trafic. If you reach that it will be fine.
alexa rank is based on taffic, so the easiest way to get high alexa rank is to buy traffic. there are several offers about this in the buy, sell and trade section. However alexa rank is totally worthless in my opinion, i just use it to compare my traffic stats with niche sites
Alexa isn't accurate because it only goes by people who have the toolbar installed. If 1000 users all came to your site and all had the toolbar your rank will skyrocket
Nobody will ever care what your Alexa ranking is. 'Casual' visitors will neither know nor care what it means. If you want to sell your site - anyone who knows anything about the internet will know how inaccurate Alexa is and ask for more reliable figures.
Although Alexa is not important in the absolute number sense, keep in mind it still is a rough number that most ad networks are going to look at when they accept/deny you - manipulating it won't help a lot tho
Hi - I sell canal boats on behalf of their owners - a boat broker in other words. That is a niche market. I would say that virtually no one who visits my web site has ever heard of Alexa. They simply turn on their computer and expect it to work, and when it doesn't they ask the neighbour's 13 year old to fix it for them. Many of them don't even know what browser they are using - they just used the pre-installed one, which is usually IE of course.
Seriously ... (meaning that I'm not here just to make some facetious comment about my own name) ... why do people care about this? All the thing measures is people who have downloaded the alexa toolbar, and that's almost nobody. So why is this even worth talking about at all, let alone in 25 different threads? What am I missing here?
