I started looking into advertising using CJ and only found what I would call their enterprise account pricing: $2250 set up fee, 250 annual fee, $3000 deposit, $500 monthly minimum. etc. I have been a CJ affiliate and I know how poorly they perform for me so I can't see anyone paying that steep of a start up and maintenance cost. Am I reading it right? If so where can I find an alternative for pay per action (fill out salary data form on SalaryMap.com)?
Yup, those are the correct fees. If you do sign up with CJ, PM me for my referral link please! However, being the smart guy you are, you will look elsewhere.. try www.shareasale.com
I don't think that there is an alternative as these prices are also fixed listed in Advertiser Service Agreement
Hi All, I'd really like to hear from other media buyers who are advertising on CJ. My company is currently considering CJ and would like to know, from people who are advertising, how it's wotking for them. It's hard to gauge the value of a network from the publishers perspective as the business of selling is completely different from buying. Thanks MB
CJ is undergoing a major transition right now as they try and force publishers to use javascript to display links. If you sign up as an advertiser right now, you will be limited to only javascript links for your affiliates. Personally, I'm not using any new programs at CJ due to this restriction. They are floundering at the moment -- trying to switch link types to gain access to a metric ton of traffic data -- I'd suggest looking at another network right now. http://www.shareasale.com/ or http://www.avantlink.com/
I don't see why this javascript stuff are relevant from an advertiser point of view. What are the risks for the advertises? From the 80,000 Publishers half of them will quit CJ in 2007 due this javascript thing and return to their old day Job?
I believe it is relevant because you will lose an entire class of affiliates... There is no way I'm integrating javascript links into my price comparison databases. I seriously doubt couponers will have a page filled with 30 javascript links-- the load time would be unbearable. CJ is doing this for no good reason-- it does not benefit the merchant or the affiliate-- only CJ. Why shouldn't a new merchant look elsewhere? There are better companies out there that are actually interested in the affiliate marketing business, unlike ValueClick which is more interested in their ad metrics and CPM/CPC.
Is not possible for you use the keyword link? if not tell me why? From my experience I'm sure that you can use it whatever you want. CJ is trying to make a lot of his advertiser enable the keyword link. Also the old default state was keyword link disabled for new advertiser - now the default state is keyword link enabled for new advertisers. This javascript thing is not the end of the world!
The keyword link? You mean for PPC? While the keyword link will remain HTML, and there will be an HTML link for email marketing, it will be against T&C to use those links on a webpage. I risk my account being closed if I use a keyword link on a webpage after they make the mandatory switchover. It will be easier for me to switch my database driven sites to other networks than to make them use a javascript-based link. I'm sure many other affiliates with sites like mine (using datafeeds and their own click-tracking system) will agree.
tbarr60, Based on your product and ROI I would suggest shareasale. Regardless of LMI or anything else I think it would be a more cost effective solution for you. CJ is worth the money for bigger brands with fairly high average order sizes or high turn over products with some decent margin.
yep maybe you're right - the only truth is that we need to wait and see what happens. I purely promote CJ using PPC: I dont have a web page'- and I don't use the keyword links due I try to direct to the more relevant web page: do understand what I mean? I do the inverse of what you say that will not be allowed: I only use html links for PPC. Do you think that my account is under risk? So take a look in this post that has a CJ tech answer regarding this issue. CJ allow use of HTML links for PPC (at least nowadays). But I'm not telling that you are wrong: you make me understand that probably after the switchover they will not allow this mess due part of this javascript thing also about reducing click-fraud, spam, etc..
You will be perfectly fine. Since you only do PPC, you will still be able to use HTML links forever -- they have said you must declare yourself a PPC affiliate and then you can continue to use the links as always. Hopefully you will be able to redirect with them (so you can still deep link to the more relevant pages).
So, in conclusion, I understand some publishers are not pleased with the technical changes imposed and no buyers have any opinions. OK thanks for the insight. Since we have mostly publishers in this forum, please enlighten me as to why CJ want us to pay a large sum of money to employ 1 of their account managers to manage my campaign? I really don't see what all the work is. Are you guys calling your advertisers everyday with questions? What will the bulk of my work load be? Thanks everyone for contributing. MB
Kolimbo.com is another cheaper alternative to CJ (although not as cheap as Shareasale). YOu should do some searches here on the DP boards for these companies to get a better idea of what people think of them. From what I picked up lots of publishers use CJ but feel they have poor service, while many highly recommend Shareasale.
I really don't care what the publishers have to say, although it's an important perspective it's irrelevant to me as a buyer. Thank you for the alternatives but I already know of them and am trying to get feed back on CJ. Thanks everyone for trying I'll keep searching.
Buyers do have opinions of the recent CJ changes. I suggest you read this.. it is from the affiliate manager of LowerMyBills.com (one of the highest producing CJ advertisers): http://www.revenews.com/bethkirsch/archives/001997.html Also note that eBay has firmly rejected CJ's change to Javascript. As CJ's largest advertiser, they have pulled the plug on the Link Management Initiative. There evidently are advertisers with strong opinions against the recent changes at Commission Junction.
kolimbo is $2k/mo maintenance right ? i emailed them last year and they said something like 2k/mo . maybe im wrong
