Why Should I Give Yahoo $300 to Put me in Their Directory?

Discussion in 'Directories' started by long island insurance, Jan 9, 2009.

I've been considering paying to be listed in the Yahoo directory, but other than getting a link, what other good does it do?

Please only respond if you've actually had experience being listed in the directory or if you know someone who has.

I'm also considering paying for JoeAnt and BOTW.

Why not just be an editor in JoeAnt. you can list your sites for free. I think its one of the best directories.

    Good luck with your quest

yeah, I figured someone would've asked it before! so thanks for giving me the post - I'll read it.

Is it hard to be an editor for JoeAnt? They don't mind you submitting your own site? I know DMOZ doesn't allow that!

No its not hard being an editor on either site and yes you can add your sites. I have added my sites on Joeant and DMOZ. just be sure to disclose your intrests. DMOZ is a little tuffer but stick to it and you should be approved.

And you still don't need to pass a spelling test to become an editor ;)

    1) No. Being an editor is your own choice. Most editors are just submitting one site. That's okay with us. Ofcourse we like to see someone who stays as an editor. For becoming a real editor you need to add or edit at least 301 sites. Then you can review submissions of other editors.
    2) No. We encourage editors to submit their own sites. We even flag them as "Editor Owned", so we can prevent other editor changing the submission.

I'm not an expert, but I've seen some sites rank above many others with very few links of which were yahoo directory and local links as well as yahoo international directory links. I'm not sure if the international is included now with the yahoo yearly subscription. But I think in certain cases, it might make a difference in the ranking.

I have submitted my site to Yahoo Directory. Is it worth it? Only if you have a great design, have submitted to other directories and you still want more leverage.

One thing to note: When I submitted my site to Yahoo Directory, I lost my indexing on Yahoo search engine. Ridiculous. but i dont care about yahoo indexing anyways

I'm not paying $300 to be listed anywhere. That is just ridiculous ! As long as Yahoo indexes my site, I'm good.

I submitted to Yahoo and within a few days I noticed that my ranking improved considerably - this could be fluke but it was within 2 weeks of submitting to Yahoo.

After a year I have decided not to renew in Yahoo as it seemed a lot of money. I noticed no drop of any kind in rankings.

As submitting to yahoo was only a minor part of my campaign it is hard to tell if it had any signifcant effects though it is my opinion that it made my site more trusted at the time which was great for a new site - which then in turn made all my otehr efforts more trusted by Google and subsequently my rank improved.

As now my site is trusted anyhow, I don't beleive Yahoo is worth it.

    Hope that helps somewhat.
