What is a better title tag

    We all know the importance of the title in a webpage, but what is better in the following situation;

    This webpage has pages of product details but also category overviews. Let's say 1 overview contains all the bikes available, it has 100 bikes, split into 10 pages, 10 bikes each.

    Options:
    1) All 10 pages have "cheap bikes" as title or
    2) Every page has "cheap bikes 1-10" "cheap bikes 11-20" etc as title

    Which is better?

    Thanks

    In my opinion, the second option is better. The search engines like a website to have unique titles & meta descriptions on each page of a website. Although for page #1 I would exclude the '1-10' part.

    When you have many page titles that are very similar you have to worry about pages competing against each other on the search engines. So make sure you build backlinks to each category page so that it ranks better than pages #2 - 10.

    Yep, I would make them unique somehow. If you're using PHP, you could even take some of the bike models on that page, and list them in the title if possible. If not, then I would use some variation of Option 2.

    It probably won't matter. The search engines are getting better about filtering out everything except for what they think is the "landing page" for your list of bikes. So even if you add "1-10", "11-20", etc. most likely only the first page in the sequence will be indexed. What I'd do is focus all your SEO and link building attention on the first page in the sequence and ignore the rest. Then make sure you have a page for each individual bike...which of course you SEO them too.

    try to keep each title tag unique

    aslo - what are your rankings now? make some changes and see what happens. you may need to experiment to see what title tag works best, but the only way to find out is to make some changes and see what happens

    Always have different titles for all your pages. The more unique the better, providing they are decriptive of the pages content.

    I also would say to make your title tags unique. Even better that 1-10 would be to describe the bikes listed - eg 4 gear or 5 gear or racing bikes etc.

    Give your site and each different page a different title.

    Having a site with loads of duplicate title tags isn't as good as giving them all good unique title tags
