There was a service on DP doing that but it seems to have disapeared

nop, I need to drive tragetted traffic so SEO isn't what I am looking for

site is monetized with adsense, so the traffic may generate some money but that's not the main purpose of the campaign, I am just trying to have more people use the site.

Well, again and again I am wondering why people are running an image hoster without having some basic ideas how to deal with.
First of all, adsense is not the best choice for monetizing an image hoster. You also need to put ads around the displayed images to make some money. And there is a lot more you have to consider.
I am about to write a tutorial and publish it on my blog. I will promote it on the freebie section, so stay tuned
