Please review my web tools site

Discussion in 'Websites' started by Jacotus Brededin, Jan 7, 2009.

    Hi Guys,

I started to build a web tools site called Joe’s Webtools: Webmasters tools and resources.

The goal is to have on one site all the tools I use everyday (or nearly) from about 20-30 different sites.

I will be very interested to get your comments and suggestions. Particularly:
    - Do you like the concept?
    - Do you like the overall design?
    - What tools do you use?
    - What tools would you like to see there?

    Thanks,
    JB

The design isn't bad however, I think you should get a logo and add some
    graphics into the header.

That's an idea. I was thinking of some neon like pink flashing saying Web at Joe's ;)

The content is good but the design is a bit bland. Try creating a logo which reflects your site's content or add a few images to the posts. Incorporating a few other colors would also help.

    Good Luck

    That's a good idea.
I was planning for a logo at the top but adding some images to illustrate the tools would certainly make the experience nicer.

    Looks pretty good to me.
The only suggestion I have is to get rid of the "A new tool:" in your News section. Drives me nuts and I am not sure how Google would view it (if you are interested in that area).

    Good luck,

    Ha, yes. I can understand...

Actually, I did that to avoid having duplicate page titles (both in the news and on the tool page) as I plan to do some SEO when I have a bit more time.

    Maybe "News:" instead? Any suggestion?

I'm not too good at that stuff. What about changing the Title on top from News to Tools. After all, they are all tools ain't they:) That way you just list MD5 Hash Generator, htpasswd etc. and you don't keep listing a new tool.

    Good luck!!

A Css drop down menu would be nice at the top section and maybe left section (maybe mac style)
And plz remove the shares button at your posts in the main page..
its look very annoying to me see same share buttons 10 times or more..
    And definetly need good background..

Realistically, I don't think I'll ever get on the top of google as there are a lot of established sites done by peoples extremely good at SEO.

But, it's only about a week old and I've been able to write a tool per day, so I'm pretty optimistic :)

What kind of tool do you use or would like to see there?

Nice theme. I know it is trendy these days to have an RSS subscribe that takes up half the page, but I think it is obnoxious. Maybe move it to the right hand column?

It's actually a bit more than a RSS subscribe. What you see depends on where you come from.

It's pretty big but you should only see it once and you can close it ;)

I'm still curious. If I had to add only one more tool, which one should that be?

Creating a logo will really help to liven the design I believe. Maybe a little crescent wrench logo concept? That always makes me think of tools. :)

Also - in your code, there are no SEO related meta tags. (e.g. keyword, description, etc...)

You site is nice.but i feel if your left side vertical menu is on top in horizontal way than it make site attractive and you can get more space for your content.

And as all say logo is importent for your site. So think about it.

    Regards
    Sam

Nice and simple theme but i felt that the tools are less trying adding some more and very good artciles that fits your niche should be there , bring in more content and as already said try a logo .
