Is Alexa dead ?

Well, i have this question for you guys, is Alexa ranking almost dead ? I mean I haven't seen any changes on my websites from Christmas... or they are in winter break or something ?

 

Alexa is dead since it was born. Its ranking is absolutely ridiculous.

 

Yeah I havent had an update either

 

my sites ranking was getting better little by little before Christmas then all of a sudden it just froze and it's been the same rank for that last month or so and so are the rest of my sites.

 

No one who is serious in internet marketing really cares what their rank is. It simply doesn't do a good job of ranking sites properly.

 

I know that the rank is stupid and can be bigger if you use their toolbar, but i was just curious and saw that the rankings were frozen since Christmas.

 

I'm not confident that by itself Alexa was ever an accurate metric for determining a sites inherent overall rank/value or traffic.

 

Sorry cipcip, I guess I didn't understand the question. I haven't checked my ranking in so long that I'm not sure that it has changed or not.

Well, they need an upgrade, now we just have to wait and see.

 

Upgrade of what specifically?

 

I think of their algorithm maybe ? I don't know for sure, I just think that this is the reason for their delay.

 

Well, Alexa to me is crap when it comes to ranking anything. I have one site that from January - April each year pushed about 15 million page views each month (special sports niche). I was contacted by a marketing firm and was ready to ink a deal for some advertising dollars until they checked the site's "Alexa" ranking and the manger indicated "You don't rank well enough in Alexa for us to buy your traffic", and they refused to do the deal.

She knew that the Analytics numbers I was showing her was worth what I wanted for the traffic, but she said her hands were tied by her company and the advertisers it represented.

 

I'd be a bit skeptical of any firm that uses Alexa's data alone as a metric for determining real/actual traffic.

 

Alexa seems to have no use anymore, I personally don't care for it and focus on PR and all that jazz.

 

Where would the serious people in Internet Marketing go ? Which site has a comparable service to Alexa , (i.e. quick, easy to use and at no cost) ?

 

Their toolbar doesn't work with IE7, or chrome!

You either have to run firefox or IE6.

I don't think Alexa's numbers are worth anything, but since there is no other game in town, people will still use them.

 

I've also noticed that there were no change for a long time. I remember before this break, it would change in about every 4-5 days regularly. And yes, maybe Alexa isn't very good for determining real traffic, but it's good when comparing websites.

 

ui have been trying to get alexa to update my thumbnail for ages.

for about 4 months now it has been waiting to be update. i keep submiting it to be updated and nothing happens with any of my sites
