I would like to raise one of the most arguable questions nowadays – page rank and the impact it has on website ranking positions in Google! I think page rank has not a direct impact on Google algorithm today! Even if it does this influence is much lower today! What do you think about this question? Do you agree with me? If not let’s start discussing this interesting topic!
PR can be important for speed of indexing, but it really appears to have little impact on rankings. There are many other factors to be concerned with.
PR was and remain one of the most important factors to rank websites within Google search engine. PERIOD.
PR is certainly relevant to SERPs and Important. But it is one of the 200 or more factors that Google evaluate in ranking a site --- Source - Matt Cutts http://sphinn.com/story/74952#c54521 Source - Andy Beard - the renowned SEO http://andybeard.eu/2008/02/pagerank-google-search-ranking-factor.html
PR and Page Rank and SERP and backlinks and index pages and google and google guy and "Matt Cutts" are brotherhood. You better believe it. No joking
pr may be important to a certain extent but I do not think pr is directly related to rankings in the serps.
While PR is still an important factor in determining a site's quality, I don't think there is a direct correlation between the PR and the SERPs. During the latest PR update one of my sites gained PR while its SERP for the main keywords remained the same.
It would be my opinion that PR comes into the algorithm through links. What I mean by that is anchor text in a link to your site from a site with high page rank is where SERPS are affected. If you have good anchor text in your link, and the referring site has a high PR, you will likely see traffic for that word or phrase begin to rise. I could be entirely wrong about that, but it is definitely what I've noticed!
Pagerank is not related to traffic, and only remotely related to SERP's. Newbies worry about Pagerank, real webmasters worry about traffic, conversions and income.
I think that PR can only demonstrate what link popularity website has! Actually, it has low impact on Google algorithm!
Like everything else regarding PR, SERP, etc., the answers vary but studying multiple domains shows PR is not the end all but it is part of the over equation in SERP consideration
Page rank is a catch all term to refer to the 'weight' a page has in an index based on what the rest of the web thinks about it, via backlinks. While page rank may very well be an abstract term, the concept (that the web can 'vote' for pages) is still VERY important, as demonstrated recently by someone I know with a financial site rising up half a million places in alexa in a single month (and nudging into the top 100k) and doubling sales while doing NOTHING other than running a bunch of autoblogs that give his financial site lots of backlinks.
Pr is important in SERP because it helps a site to get higher ranking compared to those with lower pr. Let's not forget that you also need a lot of back links to get a high SERP.
It is pleasure to see that many people agree with me! )) I just would like to add that PR sill has insignifficant impact on website positions in Google, but this impact is lower than it was earlier!
To say that PR has no effect on SERPs isn't correct. I'd be willing to bet the house that if you had two sites optimised for the same phrase, with essentially the same optimisation on each, then the site with a higher PR would rank better. However, it's just one of many factors...
