The horribly deceptive power of Google

Do any relevant sites even rank with Google anymore? Its a crap fest of dead links, dead sites, irrelevant sites and redirects to virus scanners and other scams.

Here's and interesting search phrase "what did meagan say to sharon osborne"

    http://www.google.com/search?client...eagan+say+to+sharon+osborne&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

The first few results either redirect to Barrack Obama's web site or a PC Virus Scanner scam depending on what browser you use.

Using Safari, the NUMBER ONE link will redirect to Obama's web site.

Number two will redirect to a PC Virus scanner scam that pretends to scan your computer and then asks you to download a virus scanner cleaning package. Its likely one of those that installs itself as the virus than asks you for money to remove it.

Using Firefox results one and two both end up at different virus scanner sites. The sites were created just days ago.

Im finding google more and more disorganized, inaccurate and otherwise full of crap lately. More now than ever.

BTW, I use a Mac, so if you decide to visit these places on a PC beware.

    Enjoy.

Funny. I was thinking the same lately.
You are looking for something specifically and you find year old posts on websites that might cover the topic, but which are just not up to date anymore.

It is even worse if you are looking for product specifications. First you get endless lists of online shops where you can buy the item, but without any inforamtion value at all.

But hey, this is the nature of the internet. It is dynamic and why should Google be and stay the best search engine forever. There will be new ways to rate and organize information and Google will either team up or lose market share.

I agree, for some of the more obscure searches I have been coming up with more junk recently.

Really? A lot of human time has been devoted to systematically delisting and penalizing a lot of popular and respectable sites. The war on directories and other content driven sites is quite evident.

I find the less obscure the worse the result.

Even worse are the google image searches. 9 times out of 10 the first few results have links to images that either do not exist, or cannot be loaded for whatever reason.

It seems that google is trying to make its algorithm even more difficult to crack but at the same time they are worsening their own search engine.

    I have also seen this.

I'm getting tired of having to report these spam links as they keep pushing me further and further down the SERPS.

Maybe there are no better sites to tell you what "what did meagan say to sharon osborne" ?

Not many people are going to phrase a sentence like that unless they are asking it on say yahoo answers.

I saw a funny one the other day on a 4 word mortgage query, i was looking for a specific site.

One result was an .edu guestbook, the page title was "XXX Sluts" and the page was seriously 1 MB in size because there was probably 20,000 spammed links on the page for everything from Rolex Watches to Viagra.

The sad thing? The last guestbook entry was 06 and it was still indexed by Google and ranking higher than the site i was looking for.

    Wait. What DID megan say???

    j/k

I've noticed this for quite some time now. Especially what another poster has said about looking for a product and only finding places that sell them (software specifically). I don't want to find every bait and switch company out there. I find myself sifting through pages and pages before I find relevant information based on my search criteria.

With that said (not to thread jack), what are some other search engines that you guys use that you think provide good and relevant results? Kind of curious.

Yeah, like searching for information on a John Deere 200 carburetor only to find results for NASCAR races. Retarded!!!!

    It certainly is.

Yesterday i was trying to look for a program on Google, i was basically trying to find the best one of the bunch by doing queries such as "best xyz", "xyz reviews", "xyz comparisons" and a bunch of longer tail queries.

The results were simply junk, unrelated or just ad infested affiliate pages saying the tool was the best in the world with no specs or anything useful so i gave up after 30 minutes.

So.. I went to a massive warez forum, punched "xyz" in the search box and BAM 10 pages of results containing nothing but vendor info, tools specs and features, version numbers, changelogs, release dates and no BS.

I jumped over to the vendor of the best one, downloaded the 14 day trial and it's perfect. Time taken about 5 minutes.

So if your searching for software, don't use Google find a big warez forum to your research.

It seems to be getting worse every day. Results of obvious spam sites on page one and serious sites on topic on page 3 and on. It's crazy.

If they don't work on their systems now than they can loose good traffic atleast some good webmasters will start trying other search engines too .
