Warning: Don’t Use The Google Keyword Tool For SEO

Hi everyone,

I don't know whether it is correct or not but what do you think. Are you using GKT for seo.

I use it and I think it's pretty much accurate.

 

I use the google keyword tool, however, it is not accurate. For example, one of my websites is on the second position in google for a keyword which has more than 30k searches per month. Well, it gets only 3000 uv, not 30,000...

Yes, but just because you rank well for a term doesn't guarantee that a user will click your web site every time it appears in the results. This could mean that the other 27,000 searchers click on another site; the one in 1st place, and the paid ads, I would assume.

Also, just because a term is searched doesn't mean ANY of the web sites in the results are clicked. It just means someone searched for that term - maybe just testing the results and not actually looking for the product or information searched.

Yes, it can be the reason, however, I decided to compare two of my websites to prove my thoughts. As mentioned above, the first one is on the second position for the "30k" keyword and gets only 3000 uv, the second one is on the first position for the keyword which, as the google keyword tool shows, has 2,900 searches per month. The second website gets 1,500 - 2000 unique visitors per months. Of course CTR depends on the website's title and description but both of the websites have good titles. That's why, judging by these results, I assume that the GKT is not accurate or the data is outdated.

 

so ..what keyword research tool do you use ?

 

This has been discussed many times privately: that data is poisoned.

Edit: Market Samurai + common sense + old school secrets (yeah, old school but they work).

 

You're right. This was a point I was also about to make; regarding CTR and attracting site visitors.

That said, the GKT could be inaccurate or display outdated information about any keyword at any time, as could any other keyword research tool. That data can be skewed in so many ways, and not properly forecast...because it is driven by human behavior as perceived by a machine. There will always be a lot of room for error.

All in all, I still believe that the Google keyword tool is as good as any other when used as a rule of thumb, rather than an absolute truth. At least this is true in my own experience.

google keyword tool might not be the most accurate but its still a pretty good indicator of trends so yea i think i would probably trust it more than the other tools.

I use the tools at Wealthy Affiliate. they are about as accurate as any and they scan IE , Yahoo, and Google's results. I'm not pitching WA, but they provide a lot of help with niche research, tools, and tips.

I don't completely trust Google anymore. Now that they have the trust of everyone, it seems that they are now going for the kill and everything they provide now seems to be geared towards how much they can make from it, so you really can't trust any of their results.

 

There is no tool that is absolutely accurate, I use a combination of tools and make a best judgement based on that. Also, you have to use common sense, is the keyword something that a large amount of people would search for?

I think google keyword tool is a great help in getting ideas and determine which keywords are actually searched most. The numbers might not be that accurate but still the relative analysis can be done in between several keywords quite efficiently.

 

I think google is the most accurate out there. It might not be perfect but it is pretty darn close.

 

How aptly and well described - " human behavior as perceived by a machine "..talk about a great way to introduce errors. Human behaviour on it's own can be so unpredictable,then you get a machine thats coded by a human to analyse it.

You see the data doesn't need to be perfectly accurate, so long as it's relationship to the other equally inaccurate data.....is itself accurate

 

the data provided by Google Keyword Tool is good only for AdWords purpose and not for SEO purpose
