PageRanking and Links relationship

    Hi,
from what I have read, PageRank is based on number of quality links to your website. Question is, does the PR drops when the links no longer exist?

If I were to buy some links for 6 months and the PR increases, will the PR drops when I no longer have them?

If that is the case, wouldn't a permanent link be better than a 6 months or 1 year link? Why would someone be selling short term links?

Most probably yes. I mean that if you won't find new good backlinks instead of those bought - your PR will go down.
It would definitely be better IMO
Because people are weak ;) They want it all right here & right now. Besides, it may be easier to start various link building tasks (for example, link exchange) with higher PR.

PS. I suppose guys selling/buying links will come soon and explain it since I personally don't believe in the power of such links (it's better to say I can afford myself to start optimizing new sites without buying links).

Some people sell links for the traffic, not always the pagerank benefits. I often sell links for the traffic I give them, so it has been done in the past.

the longer a link is pointing to your site, the better. it shows 'authority' in some respect, to the engines.
