In any case 700 is quite a low number for and all out urban war like this in a densly populated area. Certainly not symptomatic of genocide or anything like. Anywhere else on earth this is an act of war, and if Israel was looking for an excuse to attack Gaza Hamas certainly gave them it.

What makes you think that Hamas will not do the same when under occupation by Israel?

They were elected to some positions in the Palestinian government and then violently thugged their way into total control of Gaza (killing their fellow Palestinians in the process) something there were not elected to. They are not a legitimate government as they refuse to accept peace deals previously made by the Palestinians. They refuse to recognize Israel. They refuse to renounce violence. Teh refuse to abide by the most basic rules of civilized society. But you want Israel to cater to them and help them import more weapons so they can better attack Israel.
