Its very legible I don't know that the dot on top of the "J" is needed,
    Try it without

I agree, you could connect the dot of the 'j' with the 'D'

My question is it looks all well and good here with colour added fo emphasis - how does it hold up in one colour?

Doing logos in 1 colour is the ultimate test of legibility. Also try shrinking it down to .5in so see how it holds up.

Yours should do fine with both, but keep those two tests in mind when you make more logos.

TJD? Looks ok but can be improved.. Perhaps need to put some slogan or motto on it. For my first impression, I dont have a clue what it's all about.. All the best.. :)

Solid J would make it a little better, but for initials, it's pretty good.

I like the new 'TJD' without the extra 'Design' part. Very slick.

You know what, I change my mind. I prefer the first one. It just feels cleaner, complete.

I actually prefer the one with the dot on the j. Makes more sense to me, otherwise looks like a D with a tail. Or maybe change the dot's colour to the J and then join it up to the D so it's side-by-side.
