Here's my current business card draft. The front logo will be covered in metallic foil, thus the metallic mock-up image seen below. Sizes seem bigger than standard business cards since I've kept the extra bleed edges in. What do you think? Anything I could improve on? Front Back
The design is very nice (I knew it would be.. I remember looking at your site a while ago) but........ I hate to say it, but your contact info *probably* needs to be larger. I've got TINY MINI MICRO business cards, and half my middle aged clients can't read my contact info without searching for their sextants and telescopes. I still refuse to make my business cards "elderly friendly", but I know it's probably costing me business. I'm all about form over function If I relied on my business cards to bring in business (which I don't), then I'd definitely make my contact info AWFULLY LARGE. One other comment... maybe consider removing "Freelancer, Designer, Blogger", and replacing it with something less specific .. e.g "Multimedia design", or even vaguer still... "Director". I'd certainly remove 'blogger' anyway. My Dad's a 'blogger' If you're a "Director" you can be anything you want. You can be a photographer, an illustrator, a programmer, a porn publisher... all depends on who you're trying to impress
From what I could dig up, the font size I used is pretty much at regulation (e.g., 6pt for contact information and 7pt for name and title at 300DPI). My target audience isn't really the older market anyway, but I'll keep that in mind for sure and see if I can increase it. Thanks guys.
The red doesn't match your color scheme in the card very well.. And the slogan should be spaced a little down more..
Well the red and blue are basically my branding colors. As for the slogan, it could probably comes down a few points. I'll look into it. I'm actually wondering if I should arch the 'Steel Frog' a bit, or leave it as is.
Yeah, that design looks flawless but, like innovati said, I would be careful with the small white letters, they will fill in with ink.
It's a good looking design. May I suggest that you create a secondary design (front only) that includes your web address with your logo so that you can print out magnets as well. Magnets aren't quite as common as a business card, and will allow more visability and reminders of your business. Your contacts can place a magnet on a filing cabinet in their office or on the fridge at home... thus your branding is always visable rather than being filed away with all the other business cards your contacts get. You can home print magnets yourself with your current design. Places like Walmart or business supply stores often carry magnet paper that will run through most ink jet printers. Also I would suggest creating a larger version (post card size) of your card that includes contact information on the front. These are good for places that allow youto hang business cards in their store. And last... an 8x10 size card with contact info on the front is good for placement in store windows. The larger size is still unobtrusive to most stores, yet is readable from the street/sidewalk. Those you will want to print on card stalk paper or photo paper. Again... you have a great design and I hope my suggestions will help.
Here's an updated version with a slightly larger font for the contact information. I've also arched the title a bit. And one with considerably larger text: [EDIT] I've printed a proof that the shop provided to me and it still needs a bit of tine-tuning. The lighter "noise" in the background doesn't show up and the font will be tweaked a little. [EDIT2] And it's off to the print shop! Here's the proof images. The pink is where foil will overlay. The card is standard stock, glossy. It's going to look awesome.
Personally, I don't like the arching. It makes it look like you run a cowboy bar, or like the printing is wobbly. Too late now I guess! Hope you're going to post some photos of the finished product. The foil sounds neat.
Here's a quick thread on my blog if you're curious. Thanks for all your suggestions, guys! Much appreciated!
overall its a nice design concept. definately out of the ordinary. but the arched text doesnt look right at all..
Read the blog.... looks great. I use the same printing company you chose, and they do excellent work, and do have great deals. I purchased all of my business items (magnets, post cards, greeting cards, letter head, business cards, etc.) through them. I'm excited to see what the card looks like with the foil accents.
Hey, I must say its a real nice piece of work and I am sure the outcome will be really good, as I have noticed many metallic business cards on net.
