If you haven't heard of Twitter by now... Where ya been?

It's a great way to meet like minded individuals and of course increase your brands awareness.

I noticed Jeff from Aviva was on it today so I thought I'd start this thread so we could add each other up and converse in another way online.

    Bloggeries - http://www.twitter.com/bloggeries
    Aviva - http://www.twitter.com/avivadirectory

Who else is on twitter here? :D

P.S Happy New Year and hope everyone is doing well.

I thought it was just like Facebook but with only the status updates. I didn't see much use in it.

It's probably useful for blogs although I've never really looked into optimising my account. People twitter things like 'i've just had a cheese sandwich'

If you follow and participate with right people you can gain a lot from Twitter. I only follow a few people but they are some of the most public names in marketing and SEO and have learned a great deal from them.

Twitter is without a doubt the best social media traffic I've ever gotten. It's helped grow my blogger forum from ~600 active members to over 5400 active members in matter of months.

I use facebook and twitter. Ironically I've never ONCE updated my status on facebook. Why bother it's just friends from RL. Twitter on the other hand is primarily like minded people into online stuff.

Don't sleep on this one; that said some people just aren't social. If you only run a directory and your ONLY purpose would be to try and find submissions then maybe don't bother. However if that's the case it's too bad. :D

I have learned a lot as well and even met many people that I never would of otherwise. Many positives from the experience.

Im never attracted to things like that, i joined myspace once and regretted it.

It took over me, same with facebook, msn messenger, bebo, they all suck every free moment you have.

    Unwanted distractions. :)

it could be useful - if used wisely :)

this post has inspired me to start one for my directories so i can update people with any promotions i have on...

the account i currently have however is for another of my sites, i have set it up in such a way so that i can text my twitter account, and it updates on my blog. for a lot of people, i'm sure this isn't a massive thing, but i was pleased with it!!

    Hello...

Ive never seen much traffic from myspace or facebook and keep getting invites from other directory owners
for twitter so maybe ill give it a shot and see what happens.:)

As for stumbles... a new site we started generated 1000+ stumbles in less then 1 month so i wont complain
as its decent traffic but depends on your content... ;)
(dont expect people to jump for your directory as its surfers looking for cool stuff..videos, pictures, entertaining stuff)

    thx
