Is the Recession affecting your online earning efforts?

    Hi,

Just curious if the Recession is affecting your online earnings? I've found that I need to put a bit of additional time into it to keep my earnings equal to where they were before.

This could also be somewhat related to a slight downturn in traffic due to the holiday season. I remember things got a little slower around Christmas time and New Years the last couple of years too.

Do you believe that the recession is only affecting the offline world?

My earnings seem to be on the decline since the recession started probably because my niche has been on the slow side of growth too.

Welp...I would have to say yes, online sales are hurting. One way to really tell is do a deep advertising search of your competitors and see where there monthly advertising costs are at and whether they lowered them or not. A competitor to Mondo Food (MoFo) is iGourmet and they shrunk their monthly advertising about 65% over the past year in order to save money. They also boosted their shipping/handling costs. Granted this is with the ultra-unstable food industry but still... MoFo is slow as dirt right now, but we only started recently :)

That all depends on what you do online...

If you are selling products or consumer services, your income will go down because people are buying less. Where as if you're advertising, your earnings will go up, because companies need to advertise more to keep thier sales going in a slow economy.

But you also have to consider that the US does ALOT of overseas business. So, I wouldn't be so eagar to say a US Resession doesn't online business in Asia or Europe.

We're actually seeing sales pick up.

Email Marketing helps businesses of virtually any kind increase sales and decrease overall marketing expenses so it just makes sense that they would turn to companies like ours.

Also, with layoffs happening around the world, more and more people are looking for ways to supplement or even replace their income.

This is not exactly true. This all depends of how much people need your product/service.
If you sell bread, people will come by everyday since they NEED bread. they call this inelastic. But when youre selling cars, people can keep their one they have now a little longer.. they DONT need a new car: elastic.

If you raise your price with selling inelastic product your profit will go up.
When lowering your price selling elastic products your profit will go up also.

You say that companies need to advertise more tokeep their sales going in a slow economy, true. but what differents does it make with a strong economy?

Well that's a no-brainer... In a strong economy, where wealth is in abundance, people don't look around as much for discounts. So, it's easier to sell to them.

advertising doesnt mean advertising for discounts.
    advertising comes in many ways.
and in both economies, slow and strong, advertising will raise the sales if done right.
and what i tried to tell (the elastic and inelastic.. maybe its not the english terms but its the translated dutch version of it.) That it depends on what kind of product you are selling(elastic or inelastic) if you need advertising or not in slow or strong economy.

that means that if you are selling the basic things, you wont need advertising in any economy.. and when selling luxury things you need advertising in BOTH economies.

    Hope you understand now

    Ps. "Well thats a no-brainer" ?

My real estate sites are down about 25% but I guess thats to be expected with the housing sector still in turmoil. On the other hand, my debt consolidation site is doing well.
