    Hello
I thought this may be helpful for newbies in here so once again here is the factors that gets you listed top in Yahoo

    The Factors
To optimize and rank highly on Yahoo!, as with any of the major engines, specific areas need to be addressed. On Yahoo! the major areas are as follows:

    1> Keyword density ==> 9%-12%
    2> Site structure
3> Backlinks ==> Quality of site, Position of link, Anchor text, Non-reciprocal links
4> Aging ==> Many focus on Google's "sandbox" when they think of aging delays however Yahoo! employs one as well, though it is lighter and lasts a shorter duration of time
    5> Keywords in URL.

If any other thing i missed it please add it
    Thanx

Well. My findings are different from yours when it comes to backlinks. We have a number of page 1 spots for single words and they are all based on link-networks and recips. The only factor I have been able to see has an impact regarding the backlinks is age.

I'd agree with most of that. I'm unsure about an aging fitler in Yahoo though. If they do it certainly doesn't apply to all sites, or only lasts for a couple of weeks or so as I've had new sites well ranked for decent keywords within two weeks.

High keyword density and good backlinks seem to be the most important factors by far.

True, basicus aging factor in backlinks matter, as well backlinks in yahoo matters. I think yahoo is very choosy and qualitative for backlinks...

and Matt i guess Aging filter is there in yahoo, i read it at many places, but yeah its bit different from google, it doesnt last long and its for competitve keywords only as in google..
for unpopular kw's aging factors doesnt matter
but internal linkings in yahoo does matter i thnk

Ehm. They are not choosy at all.. ANY link will do. My positions shows that very clearly. The only thing that matters is the number of links into the domain.

These are pretty general SEO techniques. I don't see anything specific for Yahoo except a dubious percentage of keywords density proposition.

The ability of the site to get crawled. Internal links and SEO compliant code.

Are keywords in the URL a big factor? Those can easily be spammed so how can they be taken seriously?

They're a factor, but not a big one. I'd rather go for something brandable.

I have noticed my site bouncing all around Yahoo lately for my keywords, from 17 to 21 to 77 and back to 15.

Does being listed in their directory help- do you think it is worth the money? I still can't seem to get a straight answer with this one! I have read it can even damage your results as Yahoo then draws its results mainly from your limited description and the links have no PR value! Any one have any experiences to back this up or disprove it?

Being in the Yahoo directory does seem to help, but it's probably not worth paying $300 for. You can submit for free to some of the regional Yahoo sites.

There are other Yahoo sites as well, Australia and Canada are English speaking, and you can brave some of the foreign language potals if you're good at the language.

How would getting listed in the Yahoo directory affect your rank for keywords when the relevant directory is listed in the top ten sites? It should count for a lot, right?
