Cursor advertising

Okay it may sound strange at first but almost every other marketing method has been done and tried, lately the msn pop-under seem to the new advertising form.

But think about it, most of the attention of the user surrounds near the cursor, and there is no way that you could miss it. Also, if the scrollbar was also customized to display some sort of image. The advertising potential is great, especially for getting brands and logos out there.

Not sure how I could link the advertised site, perhaps hovering a banner would make the cursor appear and hovering it over again it would change back to normal. Like those really intrusive flash ads that cover the whole site with an animation.

Ideas like this always come by and go. Just hoping someone could give me a third party idea or suggestion if it would work or not. Worth investing time in or not.

having custom cursors is possible, but im nto sure about it turning on and off.
i personally think this could be a good idea. just that you wont know weather it works or not, as people cant click their own cursor they would have to put a direct link into their browser.

Yeah that's what I was worried about, somehow creating the connection between the cursor to a link to the site, so it can be tracked.

Custom curser that had an ad on it, when the curser goes idle you could have a pop-under type deal pop up right under the curser, then they'd be able to click it

Its a good idea but you should have find the solution to overcome some technical problem before implementation is done. What i can see is there is many downside of this for example,it more annoying then pop up ads,and its kind of unworkable coz there is very low percentage that the user mouse will be idle under 10 seconds.

Your right about the annoying part, I just tested out the idea by simply making the cursor point to the banner, trying to make the customer make notice of the banner a bit more, and I couldn't pay any attention to to the content.

So that the cursor could have a logo or something small pointing towards the ad. But, if I was to make it so that the cursor would only change if the banner was only was near by. And by mouse-overing the banner the cursor ad would be removed. It would help in removing the annoying level a bit.

I also tried implementing the scroll bar idea by adding an ad in the scroll bar where the banner ad would be, and to remove the annoying factor the ad would only show up if the banner ad is in the window where the viewer is viewing the content and the purpose of the scroll bar would be to simply divert the attention and give more emphasis on the banner ad.

And banner ads nowadays being highly interactive and flashy could work in making the viewer click the ad. Where the cursor and scroll bar would enhance the effectiveness of the campaign.
